Malfunction/Ammo blow out
Firing through some boxes of cheap Armscor ammo that came with the gun. Had a Failure to Eject that caused a round to not fully be chambered, which then fired off, causing the extractor to break. I've looked around and found this to be a somewhat common problem with the cheaper ammo and these picky 15-22. But I've also head about two different types of extractors. A rotating style, and an upgraded non rotating style.

Looking for a new bolt carrier, or possibly just the parts needed to upgrade to the new non rotating style extractor. Any help is appreciated!

I don't think you can get a bolt carrier on its own. I also thought that for any work that you needed to ship it back to S&W for warranty repair.
As far as i am aware there is only one aftermarket extractor available for the 15-22.
That would be the Volquartsen one, that has only been available for a few months, but has positive reviews.

I am not sure what you are referring to regarding the non rotating extractor?

One of the running changes S&W has made is adding a tab to the extractor plunger so it can't rotate.
Edit: The extractor plunger in the pic in post #1 is the plunger with the tab.

Odd, I had a blow-out almost exactly like that recently with the same ammo. In my case, though, the round got stuck in the barrel, and caused a pressure spike.
Called S&W, and had them ship me a new extractor. Didn't have to send the rifle back...
There are no aftermarket bolt carriers for the 15-22.

What would it take to replace mine with this style extractor? I believe there was some sort of retaining pin to hold the extractor in place, no? I just found the spring and the extractor on the range table when I cleared the weapon after the misfire.

Ahh, so I have the newer style one? The one I had seen what the one that was linked in the post above, and I though that was the replacement one.

As far as i am aware you have the spring and the plunger..all you need is the extractor...the extractor is sold on its own. No spring, no plunger.
The spring and the plunger, hold the extractor in place.
From what i have heard the 'Style Extractor' is supposed to be slightly better angled which leads to much better extraction. I am waiting on a couple arriving this side of the pond. I am intrigued. So if you do get one let me know how it works out
Here is a vid if you need it?

The first round (top one in pic) was caught on its way out and pinched when the bolt slammed back forward. It was caught on the open side, not the primer side. It pinched it enough to allow the next round to be chambered but not fully, but enough to reset the hammer and allow me to fire off the next round. Since the round was not fully chambered, it blew the round out the back and side. I did not realize that it had done this, until boom. When I broke the gun down, the spring and pin were still in place but was missing the extractor.

Give this a watch, as this is exactly what we believe happened. The casing got pinched and left the next round not fully chambered.
