Default Noob with quetions

I got my LTC last April, so I'm still very new to all of this. I picked up my 15/22 last week, and it's my first long gun. I intend to use it for just fun shooting, plinking, and steel shooting at my club. As I've been trying to search for upgrades everything keeps coming up ar15 or 5.56. Are the parts interchangeable? I'm really looking for some clarification before I start ordering upgrades for this thing. Thanx for the help and info.

Some parts are interchangeable, others are not. Some require 'modifications'.

Example of 100% replacement items:

* Flash hider/muzzle break: Anything with a 1/2x28 TPI thread pattern will fit
* Trigger/Hammer replacements
* Pistol Grip
* Butt stock (the buffer tube is MIL SPEC)
* Optics (backup iron sights, red dots, scopes)
* Anything that mounts to a picatinny rail (bipod, fore grip, light, ...)
* Ambi safety selector

Examples of interchangeable with modification:
* Handguard (requires a different barrel nut adapter, Google search 'tacticool22')
* BAD Lever (ie, you can bend the AR-15 BAD lever into place on the 15-22)

Examples of 15-22 specific 'replacement' items
* BAD Lever (there are 15-22 specific BAD levers)
* Charging handle

If there is something specific that you are looking for, you can always ask here and folks will be more than happy to help.

I guess it depends on what your looking to upgrade. As I understand it most AR parts are a simple drop in. Should be simple to replace trigger, for end, butt stock etc...
the experts will be along shortly

There is a wealth of 15-22 specific info on this site for any upgrade you could possibly imagine. Wouldn't hurt for you to simply scan thru the threads for the last year or so. So much info is right at your fingers.

If you want to speed up the search for a specific upgrade, such as handguards, click on the search button, select advanced search, in the keywords field type "handguard" (without the quotes), select to search entire post or just thread titles, select the 15-22 forum, then perform the search. I usually search by thread titles as otherwise you can easily get too many results.

The regulars on here between us all have fitted and refitted our 15-22's with pretty much every swap out part and add on you can imagine. If after scanning the threads you don't find a specific answer to a specific question. Then post a specific question....i can guarantee with certainty that one of the members on here will have tried the mod/add on you wish to purchase and can advise accordingly.

Welcome to your new addiction
If you are stateside then companies like tacticool22, NDZ performance will become favs in your search engine. Have fun!

I would suggest that you invest in ammo and actually shoot the rifle before worrying about "upgrades"... You said that you are relatively new to guns and this is your first rifle, so how do you know what needs to be "upgraded"?

From Sithlords post above, only the trigger will actually make a difference in shooting, and that is only after the proper mechanics have been mastered. The rest is all for looks.

I agree with 90% of that statement, however if i could add the 10% that i disagree with.
Personally for me the three upgrades that have definitely improved my enjoyment and performance are as follows:-

1 - The trigger as you stated, but you only notice that difference after finding the limitations of the stock trigger which is not that bad, all things considered.
2 - I swapped the factory grip for a Hogue with storage compartment (which comes in useful) but the finger grooves on the Hogue and overall feel. The finger grooves improved my grip making it more repeatable and comfortable.
3 - Finally the BAD lever (i bent a Magpul but the SBR is the same thing) Being new to this platform when i first got my 15-22 i would constantly forget to 'hit the paddle' so to speak. I would bring the rifle up, get a sight picture and then realise...arggg i forgot to close the bolt. Also holding the bolt open for the odd FTF. Meant weird contortionist skills, The BAD lever brought all this under the control of my trigger finger, which meant for me, better control. Sure it is not necessary but it does make the rifle function better (for me anyways)

We agree on the trigger. It will only make a difference for an experienced shooter.

I can see your point on the grip, however, a good rifleman will be able to put the rounds on target with either a Hogue grip or the standard A2 grip. But, if you are going to shoot a lot, the rifle needs to be comfortable and be a good "fit".

The bad lever.... sorry, gimmick to me. You said yourself that you forgot to hit the paddle when you were new to the platform. Pure training issue. While it works great while shooting from the bench, I have seen folks have issues when doing run and gun type competitions. Add in movement and stress from a clock, and sometimes folks would end up hitting that lever on accident while reloading, causing the bolt to go forward before the mag was seated.

Don't get me wrong... change whatever you like on your rifle... I just always scratch my head when I see the "I just bought this rifle, how can I change it" posts.

Id have to agree the BAD lever is great.
Otherwise a jam is really a pain.
IMO its like the bolt release on the 10/22. Sure you dont need to do the mod, but it makes shooting more enjoyable

Never said I was gonna go out and start buying upgrades right away. From looking through the forums and seeing what others are talking about, I go and google it to see what it's about. Yes I'm still new to guns, that's why I'm here asking questions trying to learn.

Unless you found a certain AR-15 ambi selector to fit the 15-22 I don't believe they work with the 15-22. I had to order the badass ambi safety made specifically for the 15-22

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just I see this all the time... especially on the AR 15. Guys buy it and treat it like "legos for men", spend a bunch of money on a bunch of garbage and still can't shoot.

Before you change anything, just shoot it. Perhaps take a class, or maybe do an Appleseed shoot if they have those in your area.

I didn't take your post as trying to be a jerk. I don't take stuff said to me on any forum personal. I will be doing a lot of shooting with it! I'm not planning on buy a bunch of stuff and having all kinds of **** hanging off it. But I do plan on getting some stuff just for looks to make it mine.
