How many Mags?
How many mags do you have? The real reason for this post: Print it off, leave on the kitchen table for the wife to read, justify my most recent purchase. OK, before you suggest I am whipped, Married 31 years, want to keep it that way, LOL.

I have ~8 25 round magazines (I think 2-3 of those are 10 round long magazines with the limiting pin popped out), 1 10 round magazine (for bench work), 4 Salem 6 20 round magazines, 4 32 round plinker tactical magazines.
I don't use the plinker tacticals or the Salem 6 magazines much.
IMHO, more magazines is good IF you are paying for range time. You can load up 200+ rounds at home and not pay for it.
If you are not paying for range time, the extra magazines aren't as useful (IMHO) because it allows you to slow down your firing rate a bit.
The truth is, having extra magazines is always good, even if you're not using them.
Also, there is no worry or fear of keeping them loaded. Springs do not wear out due to being compressed; they wear out from repeated compression/decompression cycles.

I currently have 10 mags, all 25 rounders. As stated above, you can never have too many mags, especially if you shoot at a range under a time limit. Most of my range time happens at local ranges that limit shooters to 1 or 1.5 hours so having the extra mags helps cut down on reload time and keeps me shooting more than loading mags. For the price of the mags nowadays, its a good idea to stock up a little. Even if you dont load all your magazines for the range its good to have a few extra to replace broken or overused mags.
Btw, my wife balked at all the extra spending too but i just explained to her the formula for married men purchasing firearms and accessories. A gun is equivalent to a purse. Magazines are equivelent to shoes. Makeup is equivelent to ammo. I told her that for every 3 purses she has, I should have one gun. And for every 5 pairs of shoes she has, I should have an extra magazine. For every drawer in our bathroom filled with her makeup and cosmetics, thats one case of ammo for me.
She laughed. I laughed. I bought a new gun and 10 magazines. Everyone was happy.
Just remember, if you cant compromise...negotiate.

I am rolling! What a great formula! I may have to modify it a little to include my tools, I'm quite sure she'll through that in. Based on her shoe collection, I'm ordering at least 6 more mags.

Just switched the range I got to, the first one was $22/hr (half price 2pm-5pm) and they put you "on the clock". The new one I go to is $11 and I never had a problem with time, but I did buy an annual membership, $100 for a year, the old one was like $250 for a year. I typically go once per week so I figure I'll save $400 or so per year. (still doesn't mean I don't need more mags........)

Nothing wrong with being whipped. Better than being the man of the house & divorced 3 times. I am boss at work & have no desire to boss my wife around. Been married 37 years and she buys what she wants... I buy what I want. We are both adult enough to know when to stop.
I have around 16 25 rounders & I guess 2-3 short ones, which I really never use. I never know exactly how many magazines I have because whenever I start looking for something, magazines just seem to pop up all over the place. I keep 12 of the 25 rounds in two magazine pouches (each holds 6). When I go down to my home range, 12 magazines is just about perfect for a range trip.

My wife has 16 total magazines for her two 15-22s. A typical range trip is eight magazines for rifles so I just alternate sets between trips. It's easier to just load all the magazines at home and spend more time shooting while at the range. Sadly, they are all ten round magazines in compliance with CA law.

There is no such thing as too many magazines or too much ammo!
I have 15 25-round S&W magazines and 10 10-round S&W magazines. I don't waste money on the plinker tactical junk. I have another 30 magazines for other firearms.
My wife and I have an agreement; I don't tell her how much she can spend on her hobbies and she keeps her nose out of mine. Been that way for 49 years!

I currently have 23 - had 24 but had to discard one with worn out feedlips. They are all 25 round factory mags.

I think just 6-8 of the factory 25rd, plus 4 of the 50rd BDM drums. Don't even want to think about total mags for everything in the house, though.

Prolly 40-45 magazines, 22, 380, 9mm, 45, 5.56.
Unlike bananas, they don't spoil sitting around.

I have a total of 3, but plan on getting a few more. My normal range is by the hour, so having more seems better to me. However the McFadden speed loader sure cuts down on re-load time.

I think you need to address your formula. The purse to gun ratio seems right to me, but your shoes to magazines seems way off, and not in your favor. Cosmetics may be ok, not sure there!!

My wife and I shoot steels with our 15-22's. At any given match we'll both need 6 magazines. We have a total of over 20; ten still in the box as back ups.
When the feed lips wear out, send Smith&Wesson an email, they'll sent a return label and replace the mags.
A bonus of sharing shooting sports with the spouse is she has bought into keeping the safe and shelves stocked with guns, ammo and magazines. The downside is she like to skim off the good stuff. Any time I get a new gun or optic, it usually becomes hers and I get to buy another.

Your wife simply must not operate on same the level of shoe ownership as my wife. Shes something of a high heel aficionado!

I must be dense. I don't understand the question. Doesn't it matter how many guns you have? If you have one gun, eight magazines might be enough. If you have ten guns, eight magazines would not be enough. My lovely and intelligent wife understood very quickly that a $300 gun, carefully bought, was a $500 gun three years later. A $300 dress, carefully bought, is a $10 garage sale item three years later. Money spent carefully on guns, magazines and ammo is an investment. Money spent on clothes and accessories is just "spent".

I think, given that OP put his question in the 15-22 forum, he was speaking specifically about magazines for the 15-22. Maybe im wrong but thats the impression I got.

A pair of 25s and a pair of 10s for the 15-22. For the shooting I do I don't need any more than that. Same or each of my bolt 22s, 2 10s and 2 5s each. That's enough for me. For ARs and AKs I have about 10 std cap mags for each rifle and a few short ones for bench shooting.

The real question should be.........
How much 22lr ammo are you hoarding?????
I have around 38K
Most bought @ $27Can a brick bulk ammo
Now it's $40+ a brick
Yellow jacket is $80+
No since in having 5+ mags if you don't have ammo!

As stated so before, you never have too many mags. I only have 6 for my M&P 22, all 25 rounders, but I have 20for my ARs, 14 for my Glock 22. I try to get as many mags as I can afford.

I have 12 X 25 round mags, that's what I determined I would carry. 10 fit into my Condor tactical vest, 1 fits the NcStar buttstock pouch and 1 to load in the rifle, that's 12. To see the chest rig, it's on the picture thread, post #4862. M&P 15-22 Picture Thread

This is just for the 15-22 but all my guns have several spares.
4 x 20 Round Salem 6 Magazines
1 x 25 Round OEM Magazine
8 x 35 Round Plinker Tactical Magazines
1 x 50 Round Black Dog Machine Drum
Just tell her that in case of another high capacity ban the mags could be worth a fortune and you would gladly take her shopping when the payoff comes.

Magazine rules
1) If you know exactly how many you have, you don't have enough.
2) If you know approximately how many you have, you are doing OK.
3) If you have no clue, you just need a couple more.

I have about a dozen or so 25 round mags. I really don't need this many but during the sandy hook shenanigans I was able to trade 15-22 mags for 30 round AR mags. In the 3 years I've had my 15-22 I've only worn out one mag in 3-4K rounds. They are pretty durable.

Damn it, I thought 2 was extravagant, LOL. Seriously though, I have 2 25 round mags for the 15-22. I need pick a few more up but I think having only two slows me down a bit at the range.

Geez, I don't have a single magazine-fed firearm that doesn't have at least six magazines for it.

Yeah, when my kids finally realized that chasing errant tennis balls wasn't the same as actually playing tennis, I had to give up the sport.

True enough. It's already started with sports and buddies but no girls yet. I'm lucky that they still "want" to spend time with dad, and oh, BTW the 22 is really their gun!

6- black 25rd mags
4- fde 25rd mags
2- salem mags
1- black 10rd mag
1- blackdog 50rd drum
I have a minimum of 10 mags per firearm I own. Learned my lesson when there was a run on ar15 mags and prices were a $100 or more. Just tell her it saves money in the long run.
