Default How much 22lr do you have now?

I don't know if the "crisis" is over yet because prices are still high. I got back into shooting during the summer of 2014. I was down to owning only 1 gun. I kept it under my mattress. It was a Taurus 38sp. I took it from my mattress and looked at it for awhile, deciding it was too big to conceal. I went online and searched for "small revolvers". I was intrigued by the NAA mini 22lr revolver.
I ordered one and had it shipped to the lgs. When I picked it up, I asked the guy for some ammo so I could try it out and he told me he didn't have any. I was like, seriously? How can a gun shop be out of the most common caliber of ammo. I didn't ask him that because I didn't want to be rude, so I went home and made some calls to other places. Everybody was out! Luckily I still had about 100 rounds in a drawer somewhere so I didn't panick.
Fast forward to present day, I now have 12 guns, 4 of them are rifles. I have about 6,000 rnds of 22lr,
400 rnds of 38sp. 1600 rnds of 9mm. 1100 rnds of 45acp. 1400 223. Of course, this changes all the time.
What stocking levels do you guys typically have on hand?

I keep 5,000 rounds for each caliber of .223, .40, .380 on hand. I have about 3,800 rounds of 22lr but it's still hard to find locally.

I've seen more and more 22 online. I have a pretty good stock and only buy when I see brands I like now. If you sign up for the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 (In Stock ammo thread) you will get emails when links are online. Yes, the price has gone up and you will hear many people say "I only buy when it's 5 cents a round, etc." But there is plenty out there, and while they are complaining waiting for the price to come down I'm out shooting.

I have 12k stocked away. Was lucky during the main sandyhook panic that I was able to score 4 of the 2,100 round federal ammo cans from Cabela's.

I used to shoot a ton of 22, but honestly, it just isn't fun anymore. Around here it isn't available for less than rape prices. We have a Gander and Sportsman's Warehouse an hour away, but unless I'm going to that City (which is usually never) I don't go there but they usually have a few bulk packs and a couple of cci mini mags.

Dick's and Walmart are the only "big" stores in my city. I have only seen 22 in the three walmart's locally a handfull of times since Sandyhook.

Dick's lately has been getting a steady supply of Remington ****. Last week they had a shipment of Automatch so I picked one up.

I miss the 525 pack's of federal from Cabelas or the 550 pack from Walmart.

22LR at $0.10+ per round is not overly exciting to me though it will be the norm.

now this is a bad question if you really state how much ammo you have they jump on and start labeling you a hoarder , but then I have broad shoulders and it took me 3 years to build this up so
22LR 20,000+ sell some to others that can not find any
22 Mag 1500
17 Hmr 3000+
17Mh2 3000
9MM 5000
380LCP 500
22-250 400
6.5 CM 500
.223/5.56 north of 3000
.243 200
8mm 200

I do not think it is prudent to list how much ammunition I have, a list of what firearms I own, on a public forum. Others read this besides S&W owners. Think about it.

The only place around here for 'fair' prices for 22lr is wal mart and they occasionally have some.

I just picked up a case (5k rounds) about 2 weeks ago for ~$0.08 per round. Besides that, I have maybe about 5k of other 22lr.

Probably 500+ rounds of .223. 300 rounds of 300 blackload (loaded) and another 200 not loaded. 1500 rounds of 9mm (with another 1200 set to be reloaded and 3k on the way).

I stock primers and powders for my centerfire. 22 LR I have a "healthy" stock but always add to it whenever I see a good price, kind of short on 17 hmr though.

I use a simple formula for my simple brain: if X = what-I-have-on-hand, and Y is what I need, then the formula is:
Y = X + 1

I haven't found or bought any .22 LR ammo since January when I found some Mini-Mags at my local Walmart.

Overall, I'm in great shape and pushing the legal storage limits in my loony moonbat state. The only calibers that I could use a few more boxes of are: .380 ACP, .44 Magnum, .38 Special, .22 Magnum and .410 Shotgun. I will need to pickup at least a few more boxes of each before the election.

And if I do decide to get into .357 Sig, add a few boxes of them to the list as well!

My wife and I are both bullseye shooters, so I always keep about 4 cases or more (20,000+ rounds) of standard velocity in inventory, with perhaps another case or so of various high-speed stuff for general shooting and the little bit of silhouette that I do.

One rifle and a few boxes. I keep it around but I was never into 22lr. I've had this "set" for probably 10 years. Bought it, checked for function and stick it in the safe.

I like his thinking.

I have sufficient, in all calibers, for my real and perceived needs. Actual amounts are no one's business but my own.

.22 LR I don't have much. All my distributors currently have are Eley and RWS and these are not really cheap considering that a 50rd box of those can cost as much (if not more) as box of 9mm.

Regarding the other calibers;

Smart man. Depending upon his age,he could one day see it become worth it's weight in gold, not to mention food,gas,batteries,etc.,etc.,etc.

I just started buying new handgun brass, handgun bullets last month. This month it's powder. Next month primers.

I'm up to 1940's on surplus ammo and on my 1977 dated reloaded ammo now. It's good to stay ahead with target shooting.

8500 22lr - no longer that hard to find here and 6 to 10
cents per round
3700 9mm - available everywhere I look
700 .223 - I've been collecting this even though I haven't
assembled the rifle yet. I plan on stocking 2000
rounds

Really? Tell us about the canoe accident. How did it happen and how much did you lose? Did it ruin your camping trip?

gotta agree I buy what I can when I have the extra $$$, thinking of the future and if and when they require ammo registration and you can only have so much then, I will have this put aside as a retirement

These days any .22 ammo at 8 cents per round or less is a good deal. The days of cheap .22s are gone. So quit waiting for prices to "return to normal" because it ain't gonna happen.

For many years I've been going to stores, gun shows etc and made it a habit that if I ran across .22s at a good price, I'd buy some even if I didn't need it. I have a lot of .22 firearms and always keep a good supply on hand. So far I've survived all the ammo droughts without having to pay scalper's prices. While I still have a fair bit on hand, my inventory has dropped a bit below my comfort level. last gun show I went to I found good ammo at 7.9 cents. I bought some. And from now on, anytime I find it at 8 cents or less, I will buy more.

Oh, and learn to reload for your centerfires. Then you'll have money for .22s.

I totally believe you and for nostalgias sake would love to see that pic. The cheapest I ever bought 22lr for was about six months ago at Walmart. I paid $54 OTD for a 1000 Winchester M22 40 grain black copper plated round nose. Normally I've paid around $100 for a 10000

Everyone's ammo stash is his or her own level that they fell comfortable with and what they can afford. More is better if the need arises because when you need it and don't have any it may be impossible to get.

When the riots broke out in Detroit in 1967 they froze liquor, gun, and ammo sales in a 90 mile radius of Detroit. You guessed it as I didn't have any ammo for the one rifle I owned because I had just bought it. So I went to my Dad's and he loaned me a Remington 552 22LR rifle and a brick of ammo. I vowed to never be short of ammo again for any gun I own.

Since the recent shortages, I swore I'd never have to worry about my ammo inventory. Nuff said.

I keep 3 years of ammo /reloading components on hand for every caliber I shoot. For some, that's just a few hundred rounds. For others, that's 5K rounds. That said, years ago I stocked up on match grade .22 ammo for competitive shooting. I still have about 8K rounds of that but had to dip into it a bit at the tail end of the last shortage. ( I hated plinking with match grade ammo but I got low on every day .22 .)
Bulk Winchester and Federal .22 seems to be plentiful again in my area so I have have restocked several thousand rounds of it to rebuild my reserves. I will continue to do so as long as I can find it for 6 or 7 cents/round.

I have a lot. if I said how much, it would sound like bragging.

All I can say is having seen the assorted panics and shortages during Clinton's bogus "assault weapons ban" and the past couple elections, I have learned that there is no such thing as too much ammo.

Properly stored, ammo doesn't go bad (I have shot WWI dated .303).

I have looked at the prices of ammo I bought years back and wish I had bought a lot more back then.

Ammo, especially .22 is like money in the bank.

Have about 18K rounds of .22lr, 300-400 of .38 spc., 3000 9mm, 1500 .380, 2000 .223. I try to stay in that neighborhood, buying whenever the price is decent, and shooting regularly. Quality .22 seems to hover at about .07-.10/ round. I usually can find .380 somewhere at .25/round or less, 9mm has recently been available at under .20/round, .223 is mostly steel cased or commercial reloads bought at .23-.30/round, .38 spc is running about the same as .223.

I am buying .22 only locally now that it is more available. The others online since local is quite a bit more money even after taking shipping cost into account.

about 13,500 rounds 22lr, mostly CCI Minimags. Also have squirreled away about 7,000 rounds of .223/5.56, and another 5k of 9mm. Oh and 2,000 12g, half 00 buck and half slugs. Bring on the zombies...

Haven't counted them but I have about 10,000 rds Two Rem golden buckets alone 28 hundred rds. No I don't hoard just buy when they are available, just picked up 3 325 round boxes of Federal auto match at Bass Pro reasonable @21.00 ea. I usualy only shoot about 150 rds at each range visit

How many rounds did you actually fire during the riots?
