I sent this question to the technical dept at Magpul

Customer Comment/Question:
I live in England and have a Smith&Wesson mp15-22....My question is which MIAD (MIssion ADaptable) GEN 1.1 Grip will fit my rifle, with NO gap on the back strap of the rifle

This was the reply i received back the guy even called our MP15-22 an AR15-22

to me
Hi Keith,

Thank you for contacting us.

The MIAD type 1 kit is designed for use on an AR-15 5.56 type of rifle. Even on some of these we see either a gap or it can also be a tight fit and you're required to remove a bit of material from the grips beaver tail area.

Seeing as how you want to put this on your AR15-22, I cannot guarantee that you won't have a gap or have the potential to remove some material depending on the size and tolerances of your particular receiver.

Sorry i could not give you a definitive answer on this. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Mike

Ok not the answer i was looking for i know the Miad 1.1 comes in 2 options.....anyone on here have pictures of the option 2 as fitted to an M10, fitted to our 15-22's

Not sure if either of these are the actual grip you are after but these are Magpul grips, might answer your question

Prefer the Hogue myself.

thanks for that Ben.....that is the original Miad that i have on my 15-22, but i inserted the AR10 wedge to get rid of the gap on the beavertail/back strap

the Miad 1.1 has i think option 1 and option 2......option 2 being for the AR10,knowing already that the AR10 wedge works on the original miad,i would like to see some pictures of the option 2 miad on our 15-22's

That is the absolute opposite of my experience with Magpul. Their products are top-notch and their customer support is amazing.

And think how much more overpriced their would be if they have to go out and buy a AR from every manufacturer who makes one just to see if their products fits.

I would guess the pricing issue has more to do with the exchange rate and import costs in your area.

My experience with Magpul is great.

Their stuff fits my AR15. The 15-22 is close to being sized to an AR15 but the lower unit is different. That's not their fault and for the 10 people or so who might want to put that handgrip on their 15-22, I wouldn't expect them to buy a 15-22 to check it out.

That really sums it up. The 15-22 lower is shaped differently than "real" AR15 or M16 so while the grips work well they don't follow the 15-22s' contour. Seems no one makes 15-22 specific grips.

This Hogue pistol grip fits like a glove, I didn't have to do any trimming. I think it was the first improvement I bought about 5 years ago, it has a nice rubber texture and finger grooves.

was which miad 1.1 grip fitted the 15-22 with no gap on the backstrap...me knowing that the AR10 wedge worked ok
and that the option2 1.1 miad was for the AR10

Where you run into a problem is with the "beaver" tail grips. Non tail grips fit just fine.

Only two "tail" type grips that I have tried that leave no gap are Ergo and Hogue. Magpul, MFT, Bravo Co (etc) have a gap. I sure there are others that have no gap, I just haven't tried 'em.

I had the magpul MOE OD green grip and stock on my 15-22..
the grip has a slight gap.. I've moved it to my "REAL" AR for now until I figure out what new furniture I want...then the Moe stuff will go back on the 15-22
