I have a Nikon 2x7x32mm on my AR-15 and it seems perfect for the rifle size wise and scope power wise. I also have 2 AR-15's with Nikon P223 3x9x40mm scopes that are great scopes but a little on the big size.

PSA AR-15 with Nikon 2x7x32mm Prostaff scope

S&W Sport II AR-15 with a Nikon P223 3x9x40mm scope on it.

Any of the NC Star magnified scopes are GTG for .22LR. I prefer the ones with quick detach mounts but YMMV

A difficult question to answer, simply because there are far too many variables....do you want high end or cheap or in between...What type of shooting do you plan on doing...bench, offhand, prone, run and gun? What distance do you regularly shoot at, how far do you want to shoot it? Do you want fixed power or magnification? Do you want a red dot or crosshairs? Without knowing any of these we can only tell you what we have on ours.....
For instance....
I mainly shoot my 15-22 at 25 yards, offhand, rapid fire. I like to get up close and personal with my target so i wanted 12x magnification, with the ability to power down to three. I wanted a close eye relief scope, so that i could easily get on target and easily repeat it during the shot 5 second exposures of the rapid fire stage. I also wanted it to look the part, simply for aesthetics. I 'ummed and arred' for ages....but the main determining factor when choosing a scope of any kind is the glass. Pointless getting a scope with bad glass, obviously the further up the price range you go the better quality you can have but not all of us have the spare cash to spend on a high end Carl Zeiss or IOR. I would advise you go to the higher end of your budget, you will not regret it. What ever you choose, consider, magnification/reticle and glass quality.

I ended up with the MTC Viper connect...which ticked every box for me...performs perfectly, crystal clear glass, has a huge FOV and looks schweet

The best scope has less to do with the rifle, and more to do with your needs.

The most common mistake people make is buying a scope that is more power than you need. This limits your field of view, it's not as bright, difficult to hand-hold, and often require the use of a rest, or a bi-pod.

No offense, but UTG's Bug Buster is junk. More for an Airsoft toy.

The 15-22 is typically a 3+ MOA rifle. What group size at what distance are you getting now?

I'm using the vortex crossfire rim fire 2-7x32 on my 1522 and the same scope but for center-fire on my AR 7.62x39 . Both are excellent scopes for the money and a great life time warranty

The best scope setup I found for my needs and use for my M&P 15-22 is my Dagger Defense Red Dot partnered with a UTG 3X magnifier with QD side flip mount! I have it zeroed at 50 meters where I use the red dot (co-witnessed with the iron sights) alone and out to 100 plus meters I flip down the magnifier! My use is for running shooting drills, plinking, and varmint hunting!

You didn't say what your budget was, if it's on the lower end I have a bugbuster, it's the UTG Leapers 3-9X32 Compact CQ Scope. You can find it on Amazon in the US for $86.50, I picked it up about 5 years ago for about $10 less at the time. It was so easy to zero, only took a few rounds at 50 yards to get it perfect. I like the small size, it doesn't dwarf the rifle.

Probably if I was buying a new scope for my rifle today, also on Amazon I would look at the UTG Leapers Compact 3-12x44 for $114.

I got a Bushnell AR Optics Rimfire Rifle Scope 2-7x 32mm from Midway USA a few months back for $80 shipped. I love the scope. Great quality for the money. Nice clear glass and offers a good magnification range. It was designed for .22lr cartridge.

I have a Nikon 3-9X40 on my MP 15 Sport II which is probably my favorite scope. But as another member mentioned, it's overkill for the 15-22. I think the Bushnell is the perfect scope for the 15-22 in my opinion.

Default My Current Short List

I will be shooting indoor (25 yds or less) as well as outdoor. I want a scope with parallax adjustment (AO). My budget is around $200 or less (scope & mount). I don't hunt so this is for target shooting.

I like what I have read about:

BSA 3-9x40 Sweet 22 with Side Parallax Adjustment. This is the newest model of this scope with an AO turret on the side instead of dialing the front of the scope. It can be calibrated for 36/38/40 gr ammo without changing turrets. The reticle adjusts based on the ammo and range selected so no holdover needed.

Bushnell 2-7x32 AR Optics Drop Zone 22. This scope's BDC reticle is calibrated for 22LR High Velocity ammo. It is well built and easy to use.

I'd appreciate comments from anyone with real world experience with these scopes.

I might consider the Nikon Prostaff EFR 22 Rimfire but this scope is toward the high end of my budget.

As I mentioned, I have the Bushnell, and cannot say enough good about it. It is solidly built and the glass is very clear. I'm not sure what the cost differences are between here and there, but you should easily be able to pick up that scope with a nice one piece cantilever mount for under $200. And it does have a parallax adjustment on the side. It has good eye relief as well.

.

.22lr at 25yds or less......... from a non-target rifle........

I use a Weaver 1-3x20 shotgun scope on several short range utility rifles... a Ruger 77/357 in .357mag and a Ruger Mini-14 in .223......they run about $180 or so.

That 25 yds or less limitation is for the indoor range only. I hope to spend as much time outdoors at 25-50 yds and longer.

Well unless you want to shoot one hole groups at 100yds.... which I don't think the 15-22 can do ..... my advice is not to over scope..........

I like the 1X for shooting close and fast ....... and the 3X for fist size groups at 50-100yds......... a favorite with my boys is 4" clays at 50 yds.... break the clay then shoot the pieces...................

To me the 15-22 is a fun plinking rifle and/or trainer for a .223 AR.

I don't think I saw your accuracy expectations anywhere in this thread. Are you expecting 1" groups at 100 yards? I have an Aimpoint H-1 on my 15-22 and I can group most of my shots into a 2" circle at 50 yards from the bench. That is plenty accurate for anything I plan to do with it. Just curious what groups you are getting now and at what range, and then what you are expecting to get.

I second that. I will never buy a UTG product again. I bought a flashlight mount for a shotgun and I couldn't believe how horrible it was. I am convinced the company just produced this *** because they knew people aren't going to pay the shipment to return a cheap mount like that. It was such a joke I can't stomach the thought of buying glass from them.

Default My 15-22 Scope

I realize that this is an older thread, but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring regarding the usage of a scope for the M&P 15-22. I have gone through several scopes on this rifle. First, I went overkill cause it was the only scope I owned (6-24x, 50mm). It was obviously too much scope for a .22LR, so I put it back on my Rem 7mm-08. Then, I put a CenterPoint red dot that I picked up from Academy, and it did well from about 40-50 meters.

Those of you that are saying that the 15-22 is a 2MOA + rifle are correct. I have found that the 15-22 is a great rifle, but if you want to achieve 1" - 2" groups at 100 meters, you are going to be disappointed.

Knowing this will help you choose the right scope! I think this is why a lot of people stick with red dots for their 15-22. My two favorite scopes for the 15-22 have been a Center Point 1-4x20 AR scope, and the one that I have on it now, which is a 3-9x28 no-name eBay scope. I wanted something that went up to 9x magnification so I could hit varmints (possums, skunks, & armadillos mostly) at 75 meters easily, but the scope had to be SMALL and light-weight. This is the one I settled on. It was $34 and works like a champ.

I have an Aimpoint H-1 and am very happy with the speed and accuracy of the optic. See me kill a Whirly-Gig here:

Whirly-Gig with M&P 15-22

It almost seems too easy with a red-dot.

Default Nikon Rimfire scopes should work for you

If you can afford the Nikon EFR, also consider the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire. I use the 4-12 40mm magnification version at my local outdoor ranges on steel and paper targets to excellent effect. Scope was on sale for $119 US so I went with the higher power which lets me evaluate results from the firing line. Nikon P-series mounts brought the total to $150 US, a good bargain for sparkling clear glass.

I generally shoot from a homemade bench rest from 40 to 100+ meters. If you are shooting indoors at reduced distances, I imagine less magnification and weight would suffice. I looked at most of the cheap options under $100 but decided on a quality scope and mounts for just a bit more investment. I can place 25 rounds in a 3" bulls-eye gong at the mentioned ranges using 6x magnification, and I'm no rifleman.

So many quality optics to consider. But to keep costs reasonable I'll be running with Bballjames recommendation of the Bushnell AR Optics Rimfire.

I added one of these to my 15-22, UTG 3-9X32 Compact CQB Bug Buster. Really like it a lot and it fits the 15-22 really nice. I added a 1/2 inch riser so I could keep the pop up sights on also. I also got the Bi-Pod from them too.

I picked it up here for a good price: UTG 3-9X32 Compact CQB Bug Buster AO RGB Scope w/ Med. Picatinny Rings, 2" Sunshade
