Default Extractor Question

I have had my 15-22 for over 3 years but only shot it a few times.
Family health issues, mine and my wifes', seem to get in the way.
I was at the range recently and had lots of stovepipe issues. I was using old ammo given to me by my neighbor and assumed it was the source of the problem.
I read the posts on here and ordered the Volquartsen part this morning. I then went on You Tube as suggested to see how to replace it.
I pulled the bolt out of my rifle and discovered I do not have one!!! No extractor, no follower or spring!
Can I buy a spring and follower from S&W without sending them the rifle?
And.... I have never disassembled the bolt or cleaned the rifle beyond wiping out the breach and bolt and running a bore snake thru the barrel!
Thanks for some advice...

Contact S&W Customer Support. Explain that you need a replacement extractor, plunger, and spring. Emphasize that you would rather not send the rifle back, and feel you can put the extractor in yourself.

As far as cleaning the bolt; depending on how much you shoot, make sure that the front face of the bolt is relatively free of carbon, specially in the area where the base of the round sits.

I regularly clean the bolt rail and bolt guide slots.

Cheers!

So I called Smith & Wesson Customer Service and they insisted that the rifle had to come back for repair.
I purchased parts from Numrich years ago, so I went into their website and they showed the plunger and spring in stock..
$5.20 and $4.95 postage and they are on their way!
I have no idea what happened to the originals. I have never even tried to disassemble the bolt! I guess I better shoot it more and learn more about it.

When I placed the Numrich order I tried to order 2 of each and it wouldn't accept the quantity of 2 on either part. I guess I got the last of each! I have an order confirmation.
Can someone explain why S&W wouldn't just sell me the parts?
The rifle isn't broken it's just 3 little pieces..
The guy I spoke to was very nice, just insisted that the rifle had to be stripped of all accessories and shipped back to them.
I do not have a box so that is an inconvenience all by itself, let alone the 6 week turn around.

If I call them back and give somebody those part numbers will I have a different result?

I had an Out-of-battery that resulted in a lost extractor. Explained this to them, and they just asked for an address to ship it to.

If you get someone who insists you send the rifle back, remind them that in the short and long term it is less expensive to ship you the parts.

It's all in who you talk to, really. Also, don't offer to purchase the parts - this is a warranty repair, and should be treated as such. Just offer to perform the repair yourself.

Thank you everyone who responded!
I appreciate the advice.
I have no knowledge of the UK import laws, but it sounds like you cannot order small repair or spare parts from the US and have them sent directly to you? I get that perhaps some businesses may refuse to do it. Some won't even ship to California!
But, is it illegal for a friend to send parts to the UK?
As soon as I get my parts I am going to shoot this thing and learn more about it's functionality!
Regards
Mike

if the part is listed with the ATF as a non export you can get a fine and or jail time for sending a $10 part out of the USA ((((
