Any rifle bought or sold in the UK has to be proofed, however once the rifle is in your possession you can do whatever you want to it. I am having my barrel shortened pretty soon and have been informed that the rifle does not need to be re-proofed after doing this. However if i decide to sell it (which would be like selling my arms...pardon the pun) then it would need to re-proofed. Tis a loophole in the regulations. Seeing as i highly doubt i would ever sell my favorite rifle....my adult lego, it should not need reproofing unless i part ways with it, then it would be my responsibility to get it reproofed, not the buyers.
