Default Help with red dot sights

Hello All,

I'm picking up my 15-22 sport II on Friday and I want to get a red dot sight of some sort. I've been pretty sold on the Strikefire II (thats the most I want to spend). Yesterday i came across the Mueller Quick Shot red dot. And now I'm confused. Would you folks recommend a tube style sight or an open style?

I'll be shooting out to 50 yds (maybe 100 yds I guess). Mostly target and general plinking no hunting.

Is there anything else I should look at?

Thanks
FNG

I think you get more for you money in the low-priced reflex sights than tube-type. They can be hard to zero, since most do not have click stop dials, and use a short-lived coin type battery.

NStar makes a fairly decent tube type red dot. Popular for the Airsoft market, they hold their zero well enough for .22 LR and are easily adjusted. They use a laser source rather than an LED like most low cost units. They use two CR2032 batteries.

If you can afford an Aimpoint PRO, it's the best one you can buy of you don't need night-vision capability. The PRO uses a CR1616 battery that lasts about 2 years in continuous operation.

Just checked the price of the Aimpoint Pro And while it looks nice, it is way out my my league right now. Thanks for the suggestion. You don't see much on the Mueller Quick Shot red dot. What you do find people seem to like it. Any first hand reports?

It's a matter of preference for a red dot or reflex site. Try both if you can before you commit to one. You should also look at the warranty of both as well. Vortex has lifetime warranty. I've never heard of the other you're looking at so do some research. A quick Google search of "redot vs reflex sight" may yield some more "professional" results.

I have a Strike Fire II that I use on my M&P15-22 for past two years. Really like being able to switch between the red and green dots.

No problems. Have mine sighted in for 25 yards but at last range session was shooting it at 50 yards using bipod and it was still spot on.

Excellent optic and great warranty - Highly reccommend.

(Also have a Nikon P-22 scope that I used on the M&P15-22)

I put a Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot on mine.

Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot with Push Buttons MD-ADS | Primary Arms

I actually bought it for another gun but ended up putting it on my 15-22.

VERY PLEASED!

I have an open style Weaver on my 15-22. Works great, and was less than $100.

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 on my 15-22 with the UTG low riser, which co-witnesses perfectly with the BUIS. The TRS-25 can be had online for well under $100.00 and is a quality optic for the price. Mine is dead-nuts at 100 yds.

I would recommend open reflex red dot sight.

And i would recommebd you look for a reflex red dot sight that hava a 2nd reticle type like a crosshair or circle dot sight as you can use it to shoot up to a 100y if you know what i mean.

A good enough and not expensive reflex sight like i am recommending would be a TRUGLO tg8360B.

Aparently there is a new version of the TRS25 (white lettering on the side rather than gold) that has some issues.

I have the original TR25 and it's worked great for 6 years.

I have both the open and tube type red dot/green reflex sights and I prefer the closed version.

Both versions operate on exactly the same optical principle. I personally think the closed tube units are stronger and easier to keep clean.

In most of the cheaper open reflex sights the windage/elevation adjustment mechanism is open to dirt on the bottom side of the unit. Recently, I was at the range with a friend and dirt in that area prevented him from zeroing in that day.

There is a third option. That being the true holographic sights. As near as I can tell, only Eotech currently sells one. I believe Bushnell did at one time. There are a lot of cheap knock offs but they are NOT true holographic (using laser on a hologram image).

I have used and enjoy the primary arms red dots on rimfire rifles and pistols. They have good pricing and have done well with accuracy abd endurance.

I took my brand new 15-22 to the range last Friday for the first time. What a blast. It ran perfect. 200 rounds not a single issue. CCI AR Tactical and supper X. !00 rounds each. Love the gun.

As I stated at the top my eyes are starting to suck. I came home and ordered a UTG red dot 4.2 inch and a UTG 3x Magnifier. They came in today and I popped them on the rifle. The red dot is all squiggly . I go on line only to find out it's not the red dot it's my Astigmatism. I thought it was completely corrected with my glasses. apparently not. It's too bad I really liked the thought off a red dot for closer shots and then swing in the 3x for longer range. At this time all of my shooting has been at indoor ranges no more then fifty feet.

Now I'm thinking a 1x4 scope. Will there be a parallax problem? None of the 1x4's or 1x6 see to have A/O

So I ask for help again

Default Same situation

I am in the same situation as FNG62... A brand new 1522 and I've had it out twice now for a total of 200 rounds. And like him I am looking at optics. I shoot at a 25 yard indoor range. I intend to start shooting outdoors too. The Bushnell 2-7x32 Drop Zone is the scope I will probably buy. It has AO and a BDC reticile calibrated for 22LR. The lower magnification and AO makes it usable at the shorter indoor ranges with the higher magnification and BDC for long range (well long-range for a 22!). Reviews and comments from others on this forum bear out the fact that it is good glass and a good fit for the 1522.

It's a fun cheap plinking gun for me so I threw on a Bushnell TRS25 on a riser to co-witness with fixed iron sights.
