Default Say hello to my littler friend ;)

Although it is not in my hands yet, the work is done and it will be heading my way on Wednesday...it looks sweet.

Really looking forward to a closer inspection of the 'exceptional' work and even more so, to a full night of fun on Wednesday.

For now I'm just being teased with these pics

Looks good but I'd definitely want the Tacticool22 barrel nut / adapter 'cause with the stock forend there's not enough barrel to clamp onto to tighten the barrel nut.

Default UPDATE*

Well it finally arrived and is now reunited with the lower and let me say that the final product as a visual, is simply stunning. I love the look and the work that has been done is exceptional. The recrown is glass smooth and the work looks to have been done with a keen eye and talented hand.

When i went to collect from my local gunshop, they seemed confused as to what was happening, until the clerk told the owner of the gunshop that i had already paid and that i was just here to collect the barrel.
He asked me what 'they' had done. I told them "that 'you' have done nothing its just being RFD' to you and i'm here to collect, it just had the barrel shortened."

He gave me a funny look and went and grabbed the barrel from the back of the shop and brought it out...then gave me another funny look, turned around went back into the back of the shop where i saw him through the window, take out a tape measure and meticulously measure the barrel. With an almost look of disappointment he came back out and said "that is only just legal". "Only just is legal enough" i responded with a big grin and felt a fuzzy feeling when the barrel was finally back in my hands

On closer inspection of the crown, it is a work of beauty, a nice angle on the crown and it is smooth, smooth, smooth.

The barrel cut has brought the balance point of the rifle to somewhere around the front takedown pin/magwell. Which means it is no longer front heavy and can be easily manipulated and should prove to be easier to get on target quicker. It certainly feels much better to hold.

I can, for now, only vouch for the cosmetic improvement of the rifle, as due to the delay, i missed the only slot available to test it out at my range. So the actual firing test will be done on Monday night, i have everything fastened back on the rifle and after initial test and zero, it will be time for fun. Loud fun!

Until then, i can only say i love the new look and the new feel....i am hoping i can come back Monday night and say i love the new performance

The only drawback so far, is that it is too short to reach the foam barrel holders in my safe, so i had to fashion a special stand to place it on so it reached.

For now a very happy 15-22 owner, who is now affectionately known as 'Shorty'.

Looks nice!! Can't wait to hear about your first outing with it. I'd say enjoy it. But I know you will. Let us know how "shorty" performs.
Congrats!!

Good advice, but unless there's difficulty removing the barrel nut for the first time from the factory it shouldn't be an issue.

Keep in mind that before there were steel barrel nut wrenches we were making our own from PVC pipe. Those little plastic fingers we cut out were strong enough to loosen the barrel nut. It's only something like 20lbs. The real issue is a flash hider that's been torqued on or someone used locktite. Now THAT can spin the barrel in the receiver absent a barrel clamp. But there's no need to tighten the flash hider more than hand tight anyway. I swap out muzzle devices and suppressors on my .22s all the time. Only hand tighten.

Thanks, I made sure to ask the guy (who is well versed with the 15-22 as he custom builds them here in the UK, handguard swaps etc) if he tightened the barrel nut tight. He was aware that a loose barrel nut could cause an adverse reaction. He assured me that after removing the barrel, he thoroughly cleaned my upper and when replacing the barrel nut that he made sure it was on tight. The flash hider is only on hand tight as i did it myself this evening after another look at the work.
I am so eager to shoot it, i am really looking forward to Monday.

I also have a barrel nut tool.

In the future i am looking at a handguard swap...for now though my better half thinks the work on the 15-22 is complete....hahaha

Be careful, as it doesn't need to be tight... just snug. I use the two finger method of tightening. That way you can't crank down on it.

The smallest we can cut barrels in the UK is 12 inches....mine is actually cut at 12.25 inches. You said you swap out muzzle devices on your 22's.
Do you have any recommendations as to good muzzles brakes or compensators? I don't have suppressors on my ticket but i am interested in swapping the birdcage for something.
So far i am opting for the DPMS Miculek compensator...what in your opinion do these brakes and compensators have on a 22?

I swap suppressors between my .22s. I use a standard A2 flash hider if not using a suppressor.

My opinion of brake/compensators on a 15-22 is that they have no discernible effect. Extra weight beyond the muzzle will have an effect, but you've already paid money to shorten the barrel (reduce weight) for what you wanted. So... forget about it.

Did you bend the BAD lever yourself?

Still waiting on mine. The works done just waiting for the proofhouse to get its act together...
