Default Tapco SAW grip question

I recently bought an M&P 15-22 Sport. I suppose that "sport" is there to differentiate it from the "police" 15-22 or the "gangster" 15-22. Anyhow . . .

I've never been a fan of the A2 grip. On my Colt H-BAR I swapped the grip out for a A1 grip as soon as I got it. This time, I decided that I liked the look of the Tapco SAW grip so I found one on ebay.

I just tried to put it on but the safety spring disappeared completely into the hole.

Is there something unusual about the 15-22's spring or is the problem with the grip?

Rear Recieiver Pin Question

You may be missing the detent. Read the link I posted. Can you also post pics.

To post pics, I would have to take the rifle apart again.

I'm thinking that I have a defective grip. The detent goes into the receiver and it is there. The issue is that when I dropped the spring into the grip it went in completely which means that the hole is too deep as I've learned that the M&P 15-22 uses a standard AR grip and selector spring.

I'll have to see what Tapco says about replacing the grip. I suppose that if push came to shove, I could find a finishing nail of the right diameter, cut it to length and drop it into the hole in the grip.

Tapco was less than helpful so I engineered a solution. I found a nail that was close to the diameter of the hole and cut it to 1/4" and sanded the ends smooth. I put a dab of glue on the bottom end of my cut off nail, dropped it into the hole in the grip and pressed it into place. I then used my Craftsman NexTec drill and a small bit to drill a shallow hole to hold the bottom end of the take down pin detent spring.

Put it back together and everything is fine. Now I need to see if the trouble was worth it when I shoot the gun.

they sold a bad grip IMO.. I've used 5 different grips on my 15-22 over the years with no issues ..

I was going to say try and fill the hole with some epoxy .. and drill to correct depth..

I thought of that but decided that it would more complicated and messy than my solution. Ultimately, the epoxy and drill solution would be the way to go but too much work to fix a $10 grip.

Tapco's solution was for me to send it back to the vendor. Gee, thanks for your customer service.

The vendor sent me a refund with an apology.
