Default M&p 15-22 Magazine problem

I'm not sure if there has been any discussion about this in here.

2 out of my 3 twenty five rounder magazine is having an issue with the bullet head tilting downwards after firing a few rounds and thus causing a failure to feed.

Magazine is clean and it seems like the bullet is touching the portion on the side just below the feed lip that causing the bullet to tilt downwards instead of up.

Does anyone also have encountered the same problem?

Any fix to this?

Thanks!

Just the opposite,

10 round mag has seen so much use, the feed lips have worn which makes the round 'stand up' in the mag causing feed issues, it is retired in the gun safe and is used as an experiment for artistic design endeavours, stippling, etching, engraving...

Not following S&Ws loading instructions can cause that. I'm not saying it's the issue in your case, but it could be. Reread the magazine loading instructions in the manual and follow them exactly. See if that solves your issue. If not call S&W and see what they say.

Like GhostMutt I have worn out magazines. The feed lips wear away after several thousand rounds and cause the top round to stand up rather than lie at the proper angle. Those are disposed of and replaced as needed.

I agree. I've had my 15-22s 3+ yrs now and between matches and practice they have a lot of rds thru them. Of my 16 25 rd mags I just "retired" one. The rds would "stand up" and jam. Looking at it it shows feed lip wear.

If you have nose down rds it's probably from not getting the rds staggered. Sometimes giving the mag a good wack is needed but that too is usually to correct loading issues.

I don't stagger load like others, because it's a pain. I just load em, then alternating between giving a good firm whack on their side, and drawing the assist lever back about a centimeter, and letting it go. It seems to get the job done with a couple whacks. I know I'm done, when the top bullet is nose up, AND, I can push down on the nose, of the top bullet, and the whole stack moves exactly the same amount, then returns to nose up. So I know there's no gaps.
For my rifle, nose up, no gaps, is more important than the occasional non staggered bullet, don't know why. But I can actually see some non staggered rounds, and the mags still feed flawless.
ymmv, good luck!

Properly staggered the rounds will orient themselves correctly. If you'll invest $22 in a McFadden Lightening Loader you'll never have this problem again. It always staggers the rounds correctly. And it loads a 25-round magazine in seconds. It's a must-have.

I usually load one round at a time, just opening the assist lever a little bit, then letting it snap up to seat the round properly. Once loaded, I check the orientation of the top round and the rest of them visible through the window.

However, I'd like to be a bit more precise in loading the magazines.

I like that McFadden rig! The directions seem a bit convoluted but I guess you'd catch on pretty quickly, eh?

Been to the range last Saturday finally. Tried to load one round at a time and with the load assist pulled down just a little bit just for me to have a little more space to push down the round when inserting.

And... no more jams as described above.

Thanks for your inputs guys!

That is the correct technique...the Load Assist button is just that! One round in and then insert the next round putting pressure on the round below with the load assist just aiding in the push down of the next round, you are loading a round like in any mag without a load assist.

If you put opposite side pressure to each round they end up staggering. If they are not, then pull down on the load assist, little shake then they should stagger correctly.

It is second nature to me now and that technique has never failed me.

Do you need the 15-22 adapter also?

Yep, It looks like it would work with my Rugers but I would need an adapter for 15-22, 10-22 and 22 Compact. That puts me over 50 bucks with shipping i'm sure.

Maybe I'll just stick to 1 at a time for now. I go through too much 22lr anyway.

You do have to have the adapter. I have one for my 15-22 and one for my Kimber 1911 22lr conversion. Best money I ever spent. I loaded 2 15-22 mags yesterday while walking between stages at our local Steel Challenge match.

I agree. The M&P 15-22 has finicky magazines to load. I got very frustrated with them jamming the feed. The McFadden loader is a great tool. Well worth the roughly $35. Not to mention how fast it loads the mags.
