I just got our tax stamps for our Dead Air Masks. I think we paid about$400.00 each, plus the $200 each for the stamps. Easy to maintain as well.

Assuming a US Citizen, as of right now, today, January 3rd, 2017, you have to consider a suppressor as a LIFE LONG PURCHASE.

It is not a disposable item.

What do I think of them? I love them, and really hope that the Hearing Protection Act passes. Then we can start to whittle down the rest of the awful NFA.

On my 15-22, I have a Stainless Steel SilencerCo Sparrow - a popular choice. Easy to clean and no hassle customer service. I also have an Innovative Arms 15-22 integral. Very nice, although it is not removable (including the handguard). Aluminum, so harder to clean than the sparrow. But it's a nice, tight package.

Where can you find one cheaper? Again.. This is a LIFE LONG PURCHASE, not a disposable item. It may last longer than the 15-22. It can be used on multiple firearms. So long as these are true, do not skimp, IMHO. $400 + the $200 stamp may be excessive, and it almost certainly is a gateway to more NFA items. However, IMHO, shooting suppressed is the civil thing to do in today's day and age. Regardless of whether one is hunting, or just out plinking, it makes gun time more enjoyable.

SilencerShop generally has the best prices, although their tactics might be frowned upon by others (SilencerCo dropped them, as I understand it, because they sold their suppressors for less than MSRP). They have attempted to ease the paperwork and filing burden. I personally have not used them, so cannot vouch one way or another.

Cheers!

I have a question.

My LE6920 5.56 gets quite dirty when firing more than 30 rounds with my AAC M4-2000 suppressor attached. The setup is very reliable.

Does a 15-22 get dirty with a suppressor attached and does it effect reliability?

Yes it gets dirty, both rifle and supressor.

As for reliability, mine works fine so far, others have had some issues. I guess it depends on ammo to some degree, weapon or sound mod to another and of course, how finicky your particular rifle is.

Ah one of the few parts of firearms legislation where the UK is actually better off than the US, there aren't many!!

Considering how much hassle you guys have to go through for one and as they seem to be more expensive than over here, i wouldn't mess around with a rimfire only suppressor, i'd get something that will work with a .223 AR as well. Something with a quick-detach mount so you can easily switch it between your 15-22 and 'proper' AR.

As for reliability, with it being a straight blow-back gun it should either have no effect or actually make it cycle better with sub-sonic

22lr are dirty, it does vary by brand, but all are dirty, Hence they need to be cleaned. Most 223 cans are welded and cannot be taken apart, so you should not be shooting lead 22 lr through the 223 can.

As Sithlord they are not disposable, and a low price is the last thing you should look at. 1) Sound level 2) Construction 3) monocore, baffles, 4) weight & length, 5) price.

I have dealt with silencer shop for the last 4 years and they are very good at what they do, compared to many other companies, and they will have the lowest price.

For a rimfire I like Liberty Kodiak, unfortunately no longer made. Their Regulator is an excellent can, sound/construction/price, and My current recommendations to customers, with a lifetime warranty. An integral can from Innovative arms is quiet, I clean it seldom, it just gets better.

Try before you buy. I have demo's so that a customer can hear what they are buying. The specifications listed are what they are, I am not testing them by machine. Many things affect the sound, temp, Barometric pressure, location, ammunition, so take specifications with a grain of salt, since I have tried many different rimfire cans the Kodiak have been the quietest, even on the 15-22 with a slidefire- yes it can be done.

Remember that you need a $200.00 Tax stamp whether you pay $200 or $800 which you will not get back or be able to transfer if you get a poor quality can, it would be 200 + the price of a quiet can. It all depends on YOUR level of quiet required. Be Safe,

Many European suppressors can be disassembled for cleaning, but yeah i suppose they might be hard to get in the US. I've got a .308/7.62 suppressor thats 10 years old and when i first got it it would be religiously cleaned but i haven't bothered for the last 6 years and its absolutely fine (Non-steel construction).

My .22 suppressor does come apart for cleaning but i'm not going to do it. it might get the occasional knock to get any big flakes of lead/carbon out but that'll be it.

Another potential issue is whether your subsonic ammo will cycle the 15-22. I mention this because it won't through my Five-seveN. I have to manually rack new rounds through.

I have a video on YouTube, shooting my .22 rifle at an indoor range. I swear it's quieter than my Gamo pellet gun!

My Smith LOVES Winchester subs. The Winchester X and also the newer Winchester heavy rounds 42 instead of 40.

Only thing I found is the "Can" will build up crud pretty quick.

I did post a pic titled Moderator clear out some time back. It was scrapped out on to some cleaning cloth after 1500rds

If you can find it on the search it will give you an idea of what to expect.

I still shoot the same ATEC mod and even when heavily soiled inside it is still making my Smith sound like a BB gun.

Rob.

I think a lot of folks buying their first rimfire can get the notion in their head of a can that will work with their 5.56 and .22lr. Forget about it. Aside from cleaning issues already discussed, it just doesn't work out well because a centerfire can is too big and heavy. Most cans for a 5.56 are in the neighborhood of 1.5in diameter, 7 inches long and 20 ounces. Titanium units shed some weight but are still heavier. While the extra size and weight of a centerfire can might be bearable hanging off the muzzle of your splendidly lightweight 15-22, it just ain't gonna work for ya on your rimfire pistols.

There's a ton of great rimfire cans to choose from. One of the most popular has been the Silencerco Sparrow. I have one and am quite pleased with it. It's easy to take apart and clean, and the mono core baffle design stays relatively clean. Most of the cleaning is super easy removing buildup on the clamshells. The materials and design is made for a lifetime of rimfire fun.

Don't get hung up what can might be quieter than the other. With a 16in barrel you'll not hear a lick of difference. On shorter pistol barrels there will audible difference (mostly tone) and some will have more first round pop than others... but generally speaking they'll all be quiet enough for use without hearing protection or disturbing the neighbors.

Super good advice already posted about not buying cheap. A can is simply not the place to try to save a couple bucks if it means compromising on what you really want.

I've thoroughly enjoyed shooting my 15-22 suppressed over the past few years. Enjoy your new can.

the atf finally came off of my form 4 after 11+ months, so I had the privilege of picking up my tactical innovations diamond suppressor a few weeks ago; it is liquid ceramic coated stainless steel, disassembles completely, is full-auto rated, and has cooling ribs for heat dissipation; in other words, I freakin love it! enough of this shameless product plugging; you will now be returned to your regular programming
