Default 15-22 Folding Stock

Has anyone adapted a Law (or a knock-off) folding stock adaptor to the 15-22?

I have a 30" multi weapon bullpup case thats perfect for transporting rifles to the range on my motorcycle. My 15-22 fits now if I separate the upper and lower. That's not too much trouble but...

How cool would it be to have a folder?

Without cutting the buffer tube, i don't see how that can happen...i don't see it being in the realms of impossibility though. There are some bright sparks on here that i am sure could make it a reality.

I agree; tube cutting is imperative no matter which of the adaptors are employed.

I'm willing to carve a path (DIY) through the wilderness. I just don't want to learn that others preceded me and know where to begin cutting and what stumbling blocks lie ahead after I've wrestled the same bugaboos.

BUT! Would I buy one from someone else? Heck yeah!

Yes, but started as a 15-22P that was registered as an SBR. The 15-22P doesn't have the receiver extension out the back, but if you cut the extension off the rifle it would end up the same. The 15-22P does also have a QD adapter on the back, and it was used to mount the folding adapter. If you were starting with a rifle you'd probably need to have something similar made. Also had to notch the receiver to make a place for the nub on the end plate. You could also take off the nub, but would have to find a way to stop the stock from rotating.

Thanks for this. Exactly what I was looking for! Maybe Ill get a pistol too.

This is a very inexpensive adaptor I think has potential. If ID/OD is a match, I can possibly thread the nubby tube remnant or pin the adaptor to it. If not, a machined billet insert piece could be made to mate to the adaptors threads.

I have the Law Tactical on my AR here in the UK but there is no way I would chop my Smith to fit one. The Law Tactical one is a great add on to a gas piston AR in any language.

The cost of the Smith here is circa $1200 and the adapter around $500 to get one shipped through ripoff co, oh sorry Brownells UK.

If it doesn't work out well that's a lot of ammo to throw down the pan. I would go for it if I had same ease of access as that side the pond with prices to match but this side, sorry to say, no way.

How does the law stand on a folding stock and the 24 inch rule?

My AR is a 16inch Barrel Gas Piston 5.56, with the folding stock adapter fitted the overall length is actually about an inch and a half longer than the rifle with a standard Magpul type butt stock.

The rifle can't fire with the stock folded and even with it folded it's 26 1/2 inches in length so still well within the requirements for that rule. Just means it's easier to store or put in a smaller range bag if needed.

Fitted to a chopped ***** Smith with my chopped barrel might make it a different story but as I'm not thinking I'll chop it's butt off I think I'll be good.

Good point tho, made me think to the point where I went and measured to be sure. Lol

Never thought to check on this. Thanks for illuminating us.

The hinge piece I'm considering is a UTG/Leapers unit that retails for 15 US dollars.

There is always plastic welding... should the experiment come up short.

Probably won't be able to get the pistol version for a reasonable price. They were only made for a short time and go for a premium.

This is the knock-off Law Tactical adapter I used from China for airsoft. Wouldn't trust it on a centerfire rifle, but works great for this 15-22.

EbairSoft Airsoft parts & Tactical Gear - T HM Folding Stock Adapter for M4 HM007

About $35 and takes a couple weeks to arrive.

I think those guys are talking UK law, so not sure if what they are talking applies to you.

OP: You need 26" OAL with stock folded, if you do not want to NFA it. US LAW:Rifle: A shoulder fired, rifled barrel firearm with an overall length of 26” or greater, even when a folding or collapsible stock is retracted. Minimum barrel length is 16” from breech face to crown.
Be Safe,

Be Safe,
Incorrect. ATF measures OAL at longest length. Unfolded and stock extended.

State law may vary.

I appreciate the link telero. Inner diameter of the adaptor is posted there. I'll do some measuring in the morning.

Are you happy with hinge tolerances; wiggle and jiggle wise?

S&W chopped the buffer tube to make the 15-22 pistols.

I copped the tube for my SBR. I'm thinking of replacing my steel CZ folding stock for a lighter aluminum Lage MFG K stock.

Default @ Telero and Strobro,

If you wouldn't mind, I would very much appreciate your knowledge prior to beginning the mutilation of my M&P.

How many unmolested MM’s remain between the butt hinge and the upper/lower joint intersection measured from the top?

I don't have any calipers handy but I just chopped the tube right behind the bevel like S&W did.

Thanks for helping me out.

I found another thread with a close up pic of the hinge on your pistol. It looks like the tube is completely amputated from the receiver and everything forward remains. That makes sense.

Now I understand (don't I?) that your picture in this thread shows a shadow cast on the bevel that tapers down to the hinge plate. That darker area made me think it was a part of your metal fabrication until I found the other thread.

Where did you find that hinge?
We are ready to start doing some R&D for folders

NB: I have the TactiCool22 "folding stock adapter," and it's really a "buffer tube adaptor," in that it just converts the back of the M&P15-22 to threads for a standard AR-15 buffer tube.

One must then buy an FSA separately to actually have a folding stock...

(No big deal, but that wasn't quite clear on TactiCool's website.)

I just bought a Matador Sidewinder...

Is there a picatinny stock adapter for the pistol version?

I found one from Haga defense but it says it doesnt work on the SBA3 brace model: S&W M&P 15-22P 1913 Rail Adapter - Haga Defense
