Default Recoil Enhancer needed.

Anyone in the group had the ability to make (copy) an muzzle brake? I have a S&W M&P 15-22 with a Slidefire setup on it, it has an aluminum recoil enhancer, the problem is I live in CT. and we must have brakes welded and pinned, I would like one made of steel, I want this to be legal so I can use it at public ranges without harassment . I have one that can be copied.

Not sure if it would work for slidefire but have you looked at TroyIndustries ?

They do a similar muzzle piece that may serve just what you need. It's called the Claymore, it's for 5.56 but works a treat on a Smith.

I have one on my set up and its great. Sadly no slidefire as I live in U.K.

My slidefire works fine with the stock flash hider, which shouldn't really provide any additional recoil benefit.

You might try it before spending a lot of effort addressing something that may not need addressing.

I have a "State" 15-22 with a non threaded barrel. In CT. you can't buy a semi-auto anything with a threaded barrel. To have any device on a barrel in CT. it is supposed to be pinned and welded. The Enhancer shown is sold by Slide-fire in aluminum and can't be welded to the steel barrel, chemical welding is also out. I can use the adapters offered by 15-22.com as a last resort.

My point, and question, was

Have you tried the slide fire WITHOUT the recoil enhancer.

I get that you can't have a threaded barrel in CT.

I get that it would have to be welded in place.

I don't get that you actually NEED the recoil enhancer. Mine worked fine without it. Granted I have a threaded barrel, and a flash suppressor; I am postulating that I could have taken off my flash hider and it still would have 100% function of the slide fire.

Cheers!

Yes, I have shot it on a non-threaded barrel. It seems that it wants a very high velocity round, although there is a learning curve, I've had better "bursts" using BPR 40 gr 1435fps than Thunderbolts at 1255 fps ammo. I equate this to a stronger blow back, I was thinking that the Enhancer would increase the recoil in the lesser rounds by directing the blast forward allowing the gun to re chamber easier.
Something else I was thinking was to trim a coil or two off the recoil spring on the bolt

I don't remember what trigger I had when I took that video. It may have been the CMC that came with it. Right now, I have a Geiselle single stage trigger with JP yellow trigger springs and 'normal' hammer springs.

I usually stay with CCI Blazer or Aguila for HV ammo. Those are all around the 1250 fps velocity range. Oh, and that video was the first range session with the slide fire.

I wouldn't recommend cutting springs off the recoil spring.

I have a CMC 3.5# in there. Do you know why your cycle rate fluctuates during your burst, I've seen other doing the same thing and than other that blaze. Have you played with the bolt at all?

No idea why the rate of fire fluctuates. Same thing happens on my ar-9.

Nothing done to the bolt or recoil spring.

You might polish your bolt rail guides and ensure that there is absolutely NO binding from a bent rail. Lubing up the rails before a session might be good too...

OP: If you have nothing on the end of your barrel, ( a photo would help ), you could take steel washers that will fit over the barrel- 10-15, clamp them in place and it will help to get your slide fire to run. I had put a slide fire on a 10-22, 15-22 and they both ran well, till I added a suppressor, then they became the same as no slide fire. I added the washers, increased the mass at the end of the muzzle and they both run well with the cans on. Be Safe,
