Default Removing material from the bolt

So in the recent SBR thread I saw the topic of removing material from the bolt. If anyone has done this please share info and if possible the pictures.

My goal would be to replicate the bolt design of the pistol 15-22. I want to see if it will help the slide fire function better. Also I plan to sbr and add a can down the road but Im not quite there yet.

So any input. What outcomes will be achieved by removing material from the bolt in an even fashion.

I haven't noticed any problem with the full bolt, just what does the lightened bolt do.

Blowbacks like this the weight of the bolt is part of the design to keep the bolt in battery until the pressure drops. Too light and you will get excess gas in the receiver and start blowing out cases at the base near the rim or splitting the entirely down their length.

so does the short barrel drop the blowback? making it necessary to lighten the bolt.

Correct, basically the pressure is blowing out of the muzzle earlier for lack of a better way of putting it. Hence why a short pistol barrel will have lower velocity than the longer rifle barrel shooting the same load. Not everything is completely burned before the bullet leaves the barrel.

I would err to the side of bolt being too heavy then light though if you start cutting it down shorter. See if it runs first stock then adjust if you have problems. If you go all the way down to pistol length just buy a pistol bolt.

Gun works but its a bit slow for my liking. In slide fire I would like to be ableto get a faster cycle rate. Im only left with a few possible ways to do this.

SBR
Suppressor
lighten bolt
lighten gun with m-lok rail
go to a lighter trigger currently 3.5 cmc maybe go down to 1.5lb

The first two choices are expensive currently but the suppressor may work out for us here in the near future. I cant get ahold of an M-lok factory rail anywhere so that leaves only the trigger and bolt as options.

Where can you buy a pistol bolt? S&W won't sell parts last time I checked.

I've shot a 8" barrel 15-22 in semi and the gun shoots fine with 1100 fps / 40g. I don't think you can put a SlideFire on a Piston and be legal it would have to be a SBR
