Default KeyMod or M-LOK

I can not find a clear leader in the attachment battle.
What would an ideal hand guard have?
Picatinny top rail
No gap of course
Anti-rotation
Length
Etc.

I like the M lock system. Positive lock, does not shake loose.
Here is one of mine naked.... add on are only a few seconds away.

There really isn't one better than the other. As far as mounting, both are equally effective.

The biggest factor would be the more common mounting style on accessories available in your area. If you are getting your stuff off the internet, then that's not an issue. Just which ever one you think looks better at that point.

Since there is no clear leader for m-lok or keymod, thought i prefer m-lok since it locks better, the ideal handguard for me must be the following:

Picatiny top
Slots for mounting should be available especially for angled mounting. 1, 4, 7 and 10 o'clock. It is very important for me to have it for tactical accessories like lights, irons sights or reflex sights, etc

SI industries makes a Picatinny rail mount that fits either (1 mount works on Mlok or Keymod)....as far as I know, they are the only company that does.

M-lok,
Hybrid top rail...a few picatinny slots at the front and a few at the rear, the rest clear...never mount anything there so its just wasted space.
7 side M-lok attachments.
No Gap obviously,
Anti Rotation,

Ah i have just described the actual handguard i am saving up for

Only having a couple picatinny rail spots makes zero sense to me on the top tail. And most likely for the manufacturer.

Just because u don't use them, your willing to give up the most basic modularity function of an AR style rifle?

I'd say the top picitinny rail is far more important than any other keymod or M-Lok style connection elsewhere on the rifle. Not sure if it would even save that much weight in the end.

I would be all over a BCM style Keymod rail that only needs a barrel nut swap, has no gap, freefloated, and has anti-rotation.

The slim design, and low weight are the most appealing factors.
Something about M-Loks locking system dosnt sit well with me.
I've also become quite accustomed to my BCM keymod toolless vertical grip.

Has a great profile too.

The next thing your going to see is all Hand guards made in Poly, getting away from aluminum to save weight. Soon the only parts that will be metal will be the barrel and firing group. The problem is that the Key Mode doesn't allow things to be tightened down enough without stripping or pulling through. A large square weldnut needs to be installed to be able to crank down things. M-rails are rough of the hands, so this leads to the solution : Ergonomic key Mod rail with M-lok rails strategically built in.

Adding M-LOK to my post earlier I figured that went without saying but obviusly not. To the person saying were losing the original base function of an AR-15 I say prove it. M-LOK can take anything a picatinny rail can but if you choose not to use it you shed weight and the ridges in the palm of your hand. I cant see a bad side here.

Your 12inch lightweight would be perfect for me.
Only problem is, yours isn't shippable to U.K.
So I guess in shot outta luck just now.

I wish one would turn out to be the clear choice....kinda like the whole VHS vs. Beta thing back when VCR's were still relatively new. I've read where M-Lok outsells Keymod 3:1. The fact that Magpul seems to have chosen M-Lok could also make a difference.

I was only referring to removing the top picatinny rail slots and only leaving one or two at the front and back for iron sights

I use all three - Picatinny, MLOK and Keymod.

For metal forends, I want a Picatinny on the top or the option to mount one. I prefer Keymod for the sides and underside.

For plastic forends, I prefer MLOK in all positions.

I don't care for built in Picatinny rails in all positions. Bare Picatinny rails are not comfortable. Adding covers is a solution, but some covers make the diameter even bigger than the obese Glacier Guard style forends or Magpul MOE.

Looking at accessories, as a generality, my impression is that there are more MLOK accessories than Keymod and generally the MLOK accessories are a bit less expensive.

For metal forends, almost everyone makes them with slots in the 3, 6 & 9 positions, and 12 is either more slots or a Picatinny. But if you want a forend with slots in all clock positions, that may dictate the mounting system you use, instead of it being the other way around.

12 inch with MLOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 and Pic rail up top. Anti rotation tabs would be a nice option. Please design it so most rimfire suppressors will fit inside.

It always makes me laugh when I hear about you guys whining about sore thumbs from loading magazines. And hurting your hands from pic rails. Go do some manual labor and Man Up. Get callouses and do some actual work.

I like the offerings from Tacticool. Although a better handguard offering would have suited me better hindsight. The gap is tolerable but anti rotation would definitely be a major upgrade for me. I just wanted a one stop shop that I could trust. The modularity of our little rifle has been greatly improved because of one source. Not much direct aftermarket sources that I have ever found. Still waiting for the aluminum upper lol

Indeed i do....they do a 12.5 one which would probably suit my 12.25inch barrel better, just have my muzzle brake sticking out the end, but they don't have a pic on that. I really like the all the SLR handguards and cannot commit yet to a solo or ion...but i certainly want a hybrid one.

But here is a link for you.

Jody, if you can do a M-lok hybrid rail at 12 inches with seven side attachments, slimline and lightweight (not bothered about the front picatinny on the sides like on the SLR, the solo version does not have them) That fits the 15-22 without a gap....
Well then my friend you have a customer right here! Shut up and take my money.

Please, please, please make this happen My biggest fear with forking out $250 on the SLR is that it wont fit without a gap, i could get a cheap China M-lok hybrid that would do that for $50.

I eagerly await what you are producing

I run a generic Keymod hybrid 15" on my 15-22 that I ground a little off the bottom and have no gap. I don't know the manufacturer and got it from a local guy that builds uppers.
