Default Drop in sealed or three piece

So after shooting almost 10K rounds through my gun I decided to do a deep cleaning so I disassemble the lower so I could get all the grit out of everything. I noticed that my CMC Trigger is a PITA to clean. Trying to get all the grit out of the springs was almost impossible since its an enclosed drop in trigger.

I am in the market for a new trigger and I have been looking at the Adjustable Jard trigger.

I was a little disappointed that it wasnt an enclosed unit however now after the deep cleaning I think this could be a huge benefit when it comes to cleaning.

So what input do yall have on the topic.

I also find a moddlers airbrush is great for blowing out the "gritty bits" from the FCG.

An ultrasonic bath is highly effective removing caked on lubricant and grit. I use a capful of cleaning solution in water, or a similar amount of Simple Green cleaner. Neither contain EDTA, which is used to remove stains and oxidation from brass.

You must dry the assembly thoroughly (compressed air is best) and relubricate it. The bath cleaner will strip all oil and grease from the mechanism. CLC lubricant and white TFE grease (W25) applied with a swab do the job for me.

Ordinarily I would recommend complete disassembly of any parts subject to ultrasonic cleaning. However a drop-in trigger is sufficiently accessible once removed from the lower.

In terms of replacing the trigger in an AR, my preference is to a three (or more) piece assembly using the full-length pins through the frame as the OEM. The advantage of a pre-assembled trigger is best reserved for precision and reliability in a bolt-action rifle.

I installed a Geissele standard-pull trigger in my Colt M4 (16.5"). I couldn't be more pleased with the results. It has a two-stage action with a net 4.5# pull, but the second stage is only about 1.5# more than the take-up. In effect, it is a safe tactical trigger with a target trigger feel.

After seeing an adjustable trigger going completely tits-up at a competition last week i wouldn't put one in a semi-auto/competition gun.

I don't know what the guy had/hadn't done to it but it destroyed his competition, i even had to lend him my lower for him to finish the last stage.

As for loose or captured i've used loose units in all the AR type guns i've had to date until i got my 15-22 last year, personally i prefer them now. There's only the added cost/hassle of putting anti-walk pins in them that i've found a chore. Never had any problems due to carbon/unburnt powder in the mechanism of either though.

Over the past 43 years I have purchased/used most of the triggers out there including custom made "set" designs. Timmney, Jard, Geissele, RRA and Jewell. All things considered drop in's perform better for me.

Ease of installation, tuning and consistency are better than 3 piece units IMO. On the rare occasions cleaning has been required I pop them out, submerge in solvent or use my ultrasonic cleaner, re lube and they are good to go.

The main advantage is the mfg's can precisely control the fit between parts since they are not dependent on the spacing of the pin holes in the lower receiver whose tolerances are less precise. Drop in's work as they should no matter who made the receiver. For me it's a no brainer.

Lately I've tried CMC, AR Gold, Elftmann, Ease, Wilson Combat, Rise and most recently Trigger Tech's friction-less roller design. CMC is the best bang for the buck but if you have the cash the others bring a whole new level of performance.

Wow, that is a lot of trigger time and a hella lot of triggers.

Do you have any experience of the Hiperfire 24C, i love mine but would love to hear your opinion as to how it ranks against the other high end triggers you have tried.

Sorry the Hiperfire is one I have never tried. If I buy another that one is at the top of my list.
