Default Ejector on Barrel Collar

The ejector on one of my 15-22s has some play in it. It slides back and forth a little (horizontal movement, no vertical movement). On my other 15-22 it is rock solid. Should I be concerned?

I would be. Enough so to send it back to Smith for warranty repair. I have a sig 1911-22 pistol and it has a similar design with the ejector pinned to the barrel. At one time it had the same horizontal movement and it slowly developed problems ejecting the casing. I'd send it back as a proactive measure.

I second that, i would send it back post haste. That could lead to some serious malfunctions if left unchecked. The ejector should have no play whatsoever.

Yes. This caused multiple failure-to-eject/stovepipe issues in mine. I sent it back three times, they fixed it three times. The fourth time it came loose, I bought a barrel nut wrench and a set of barrel vise inserts and fixed it myself.
I recommend that you send it back to S&W this time, just to make sure there's nothing else wrong with it. But if the problem repeats, it's worth the money to get the parts to fix it yourself. Plus, the tools allow you to do many other things with your rifle.

I have the tools to remove the barrel nut and barrel. Actually the barrel is off right now. I called S&W today and ordered a new ejector and roll pins. Just going to try and fix it myself.

Not what I would've done but that's your call. You could have an out of spec barrel or damage that those two pieces won't fix. Let us know how it goes.

The barrel has been removed and cerakoted. Doesn't that void the warranty? We will see what happens. It was cheaper for me to buy the parts and have them mailed to my house then drive the two hour round trip to the nearest UPS or FedEx customer center.
