Default Magpul SL stock trouble

I'm decided to convert my stock M&P 15/22 Sport SL to look like the black/tan MOE edition. I purchased all magpul parts and they went on fine except the SL butt stock. I was told and read elsewhere that the new 15/22 uses a Mil spec size stock. So that's what I ordered directly from Magpul and tried to install it on my rifle. It goes on but it's really tight! Any others having this problem?

I have a gen 1 moe edition and the stock is somewhat tight. I believe a recommendation is to use a little baby powder to get it on. Of course, I don't adjust it much unless my daughter is with me shooting so it's not really an issue to be concerned about.

I have the factory 15-22 MOE SL and the stock slides smoothly. Maybe it's because I'm used to the Magpul CTR stocks that I have on my AR-15s, but I felt the SL was a bit 'chintzy' almost like something designed for Airsoft. Maybe it's just the lightweight that threw me off.

Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22s have always used a mil-spec sized pseudo receiver extension.

Normal for the SL stock; it has leaf springs inside that put pressure on the buffer tube to tighten things up.

Just a thought, did you get it from a reputable seller or off ebay/amazon where some of the stuff is knockoff? (especially the bargain price magpul stuff, they even fake the boxes)

You don't have to go to eBay/Amazon to get ripped off. I went to Academy Sports yesterday to get a Magpul CTR stock. Took a box off the shelf to take a look at it. Bummer! It was a MOE. Someone had switched stocks in the boxes to save money. Checked a few more and all but one was a CTR. Got that one home and it looks like it's a commercial in a mil-spec box. It rattles worse than the original stock and won't lock.

Now I have to drive back up to the big city for an exchange or refund. I may just look for an ACS-L stock instead.

Magpul or someone should seal the boxes.

I ordered it directly from Magpul. I do see the flat springs inside, so that might be the problem. I guess I just have to put it in the position I prefer and just use it like that.

I saw a factory MOE 15/22 at a gun show last weekend but didn't check to see what the stock was like. I'm sure they wouldn't sell that rifle with a stock that's on so tight it won't collapse. Most of the time they have a little play in them. I'm bummed out, I really wanted this to work. I guess I could other the commercial version to compare this to. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks
