Default Bolt & Carrier Group Ultrasonic Cleaning?

Hello,

New to the S&W Forum as proud owner of new 15-22. Question: Anyone use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean their bolt and bolt carrier group in this weapon? I use Simple Green "purple" for my 5.56 BCG, rinse and blow out with high pressure air. Works fine. Appreciate the feedback/recommendations.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I've ran my 15-22 bolt assembly through the US with krud kutter without problems every 1000 rounds or so. Afterwards, I would dry it off using an air compressor and oil as usual.

Thank you Tim Tom, appreciate the quick response. Did you simply separate the bolt from the carrier group then clean in the ultrasonic cleaner? I've seen folks completely break down the bolt, all the way down to the firing pin. Just wondering if this was necessary. Thanks.

I usually just throw the whole thing in the ultrasonic cleaner with solution. I would say you can break it down into components. I just make extra sure that I well oil the components well afterwards.

The 15-22 is a blowback action and doesn't have a "BCG" in the same sense an AR-15 does. There's not much there and I've never done more than brush buildup off the surfaces.

When I've replaced broken firing pins there hasn't been any appreciable buildup in the firing pin bore so I don't fuss over that.
