Default My new S&W M&P AR-22

So I finally picked up my M&P-22
I brought her home and tricked it out just how I planned it..
I installed a RRA 2 stage match varmint 3.5 lb trigger in it
KNS non-rotational trigger pins
Volquartsen ejector
Tacticool22 ambi aluminum charging handle
Aero precision scope mount
Burris timberline 4.5-14 scope...best scope for 22lr by the way if you ask me
Butler Creek scope cover
M.I. stubby Forward grip ,
2" pic rail for bi pod
Oh and a VG-6 precision muzzle brake because I think they look cool..
I also have a M.I. sling mount on the way for the buffer tube..
Hopefully ill get out and shoot her tomorrow..
What do you think

The VG6 is what I run on my 3-Gun rifles. To Rob1: How do you check the barrel nut? The only wrench I have seen will not work with the M-Lok handguard.

I'm pretty excited about it..I've never owned a S&W rifle..But I have plenty of there revolvers..After reading, and watching all the positive reviews I had to have one..I know a few people that own the S&W M&P AR-22 and they have nothing but good things to say about the rifle..
I really think it's alot of gun for the price..We will see what the targets say .. Hopefully tomorrow ..I will post a range report when I get home..I plan to shoot CCI standard velocity 40 gr. , CCI green tag 40 gr., and some American eagle 36 gr. Ammo ..

You'll need a tube type tool.
Tacticool 22 makes them and some guys on here make their own from pvc tubes.
Fits over the barel and slides down to reach the nut inside the handguard.
You will also need to pop out the end cap to do this.

Plenty of people have said they found a loose nut on a new purchase and couldn't get a decent group because of it.

Once tightened up, groups improved and shooting became more fun.

Oh..I should add ..
When I removed the factory flash hider, and installed the new VG-6 muzzle brake I wrapped the barrel with a rubber glove and clamped it in place with my leather jawed gunsmith vice to remove/ install..I would suggest ( never clamp a polymer receiver in a vice to work on barrel)
I just don't believe they can handle the force/ twisting even at 15-20 ft. Lbs of torque you could very easily damage the receiver..It's just not worth the chance..Of course that is only my opinion..
Also good point about dbl. Checking the barrel nut..I'm not sure I want to spend 25$ on a wrench I may not ever need ..I will shoot the gun and if the target tells me there is a problem that is the first place I'll look.
Thanks for the heads up.

Just returned home from the rifle range and I got to shoot the S&W M&P AR-22
..What fun..It was very windy so shooting for groups was an impossibility, also there were 2 other shooters at the 100 yrd range where I was shooting so I was also unable to shoot at 50 yrds and limited to shooting at 100 yrds only..So what did I learn about the M&P AR-22 today??..It was 100% reliable. I also tested my 6 magazines a guess what!! Not one issue in 300 rnds. I could have shot all day ..This gun is great..I'm very, very happy..
Yet another reliable product , thank you Smith and Wesson..Keep up the great work.

Thumbs up To Much Fun!

Glad you had a great day out shooting. I took mine out the other day and was only planning on shooting about 50 rounds through it.........300 rounds later I figured I had better be heading for home! Now just wish I could find a 100 yard range around here!

Nice looking rifle by the way!

Use the correct barrel nut wrench and barrel vise jaws.
DO NOT hold or clamp the upper to do ANY barrel work.

BTW, the rifle is a 15-22 not an AR-22
The 10/22 isn't an M-1 22

Looking good! I think half the fun of owning these rifles is being able to add modifications. The only thing I've added on mine so far was the Magpul forward hand guard and a red/green dot sight. Enjoy!

OP, what scope mount is that? It appears to be an Aero, but they make several offsets, which did you get and what height?

Yes sir, aero precision scope mount.
Like it alot, cheap, light weight..just make sure you do not over tighten it. Use the proper inch pound torque wrench. Or you may risk breaking the rings.

Glad to hear it was reliable. I just got one today and hope it runs better than my Gen 1 did.
