Default Strip grip screw?

So I noticed that after a few 100 rounds my grip was loose. After cleaning my rifle I tried to tighten up the screw and it just kept turning.. I think S&W just drills a pilot hole in the plastic lower receiver and screws in the grip screw..
Has any one had this issue yet?
I was thinking of drilling a hole and using some devcon to fasten a bolt or something into the receiver to thread the grip screw into..
Any ideas?

Contact S&W and see what they say or

just put in a helicoil or similar.

Or try a slightly larger bolt to recut the thread as you screw it in.

Or wait for other on the forum who have dealt with similar problems to chime in and offer advice.

It isn't something I have encountered but I know others have dealt with this issue.

Rob.

Not sure on that my man. It's not something I have done, but I did use them on my ACOG for mounting to the QD mount.

Was something I thought you could try. Find out what size thread your screw is and buy the appropriate sized helicoil.

Worked that way for the sight mount for me.

Ok..I just wanted to repost here..
I took Rob1 suggestion and used the helicoil method to fix my stripped out grip screw hole.
Worked like a champ...big shout out to Rob1 ..thank you so much..
For any one else who needs the fix..
I purchased a kit off eBay and shipped it was 26$ ouch!! Anyway it came with a guide, the the installation tool, and the correct tap, also come with helicoils, and straight forward direction ..
Easy,easy,easy..
You need a 17/64" drill bit to drill the stripped hole out I put tape on the drill bit so I didn't drill to deep..then tap the hole with the included tap again I wrapped tape around it so I didn't go to deep..clean hole thoroughly of chips with Q-Tip..install helicoil, reinstalled grip..done
Screw goes in as it should and man does it lock down tight..I'm a happy man..
Here is a pic of what I used..

This is the brand and size needed

This is what came in the kit..don't waste your time doing anything other than this method..yep!! That's how good it worked..
Thanks you Smith and Wesson forum members for coming through once again..im glad the issue is now corrected. I don't feel it was my fault the screw stripped in the first place..but it happened..I have to many after market parts on my m&p 22 just to ship it off to the mother ship..and wait for it's safe return..
Well that's it..thanks guys

There was a thread awhile back describing another fix for this.

I encountered this issue myself and the method that I used to fix it is below.

Definitive loose stripped grip screw fix, less than 2 dollars

Glad I was able to offer an idea of how to fix it.

Thanks for the shout out too.

I guess an added bonus of the helicoil fix is that now you have the steel liner for the screw hole, there is no fear when removing the pistol grip as often as you like.

I wasn't sure how the helicoil fix was going to work out. my back up plan was to drill out grip screw hole rough up the hole and epoxy one of these inserts in place and be done with it..
Well I could only find the proper size inserts in bags of 50..now I have a bag of parts I don't need..haha..go figure..
If any one would like to try this method I could mail you an insert for about a 1$ ..just p.m.
I'm not trying to make money here just help out other forum member ..I'm not sure this method will work any better then the others as I haven't tried it..its just an idea ..also I wasn't able to find the part sold by the PC. Only lots..

With those ones, drill from the other side so it has something to pull up against when you tighten it. Otherwise you are relying on epoxy that does not weld to plastic to keep the insert in place.
Helicoils are the way to go, but they can back out.
Keyserts or keenserts are rock solid.

I see your logic..make sense..I would use a Dremel with a small Burr bit and rough up the hole maybe bell out the bottom if there is room..fill the insert with plumbers putty then clean outside insert with break cleaner.. fasten insert inside hole with devcon..it will not pull out with out breaking the lower receiver..( in my opinion) magic words....now this sounds like alot of work and a costly fix..for me it is not..if you pillar and glass bed rifles you probably already have this stuff laying around your house..if not use the helicoil method..if that falls use the insert method..if that fails ..your an animal and need a different rifle..haha..
