Default New M&P 22

Please allow me to introduce myself I am Terry and this is my first post and hate to gripe but here is my rant. Went to Gun Show a couple of months back and purchased two new in box S&W M&P15-22 and also picked up one of the new M&P .40 2.0 pistols. Both rifle boxes were factory sealed I bought one for me and one for my son, on our first range trip we opened the boxes to clean and lube the rifles prior to shooting. One was complete the other had no sights and upon closer examination did not have an ejector. Not a happy camper at this point called S&W they sent the info to return the rifle for repair. Sent it in and waited three weeks for the return got it back and all they fixed was the ejector, still no sights, and no free mags as others have mentioned receiving at this point kind of disappointed, now waiting to hear from them on the sight issues. The other rifle runs great with not a hiccup put 500 rounds down range. The MP .40 2.0 also ran great with no problems.

Sorry to hear of your experience. I'm sure you don't need to be told but if you're fortunate enough to purchase ftf, by all means examine the weapon to the extent you're comfortable with. Glad to hear the other two ran well. Let me guess; it was your son's rifle that was complete and ran well?

No he actually had the pick of the two rifles and that is the
Is the the box he picked. But we both had fun shooting the other
One at the range. I am confident that they will make it right
Just the hassle of it all. When I bought the guns at the show
It was from a reputable dealer I had bought a lot of products
from at previous shows and never had any issues so I just
did not open and check the rifles.

S&W will eventually make it right, but I know it is frustrating.
Don't bank on getting a new magazine from them for your troubles. My 1522 has been back to the shop 3 times and all I got was my gun back in working condition.

Please don't take this the wrong way....................everyone lives and learns.........................

But my advice is never buy a gun at a gunshow (or gunshop) that you can't inspect. Before doing the paperwork and handing over your hard earned money.

Factory sealed ??????.... the dealer would have had to check the serial #( every dealer I know checks the gun not just the box) and log the gun into his FFL books....... so every dealer I'm familiar with would have opened the box!!!!

Your 'Dealer" is long gone......( most local shops would help you out.).... if an issue is found before the paperwork transfers the gun to you ...... it the Dealer's/shops issue not yours..... which he can address with his distributor.

Back in the early 90s just before the Assault Weapons Ban....Dealer's were Known to strip out the second (and w/ some guns third) hi-cap magazines from new guns..... to sell later at $50-100 each

Not having the sights is a bummer.

The good news is that most tend to put red-dots on their rifles now-a-days. I don't even use the 'iron' sights anymore on the 3 15-22s that I have..

Of course, some people like to shoot with the irons, and that's cool. You can purchase MOE or other sights fairly inexpensively, or if you really want, PM me and I can see what I can do.

That doesn't fix what the dealer did, by any means, and technically, it's not S&W's fault....

So , is the moral of this story not to purchase firearms at a show , iv'e always purchased all my firearms at actual gun stores and never had an issue , i did go to a gun show a few weeks back and wasn't impressed by the prices ..

No; it's inspect the item prior to purchase. Do your research and know what you can expect. Ask questions. If the OP had inspected both firearms, he would have (hopefully) noticed the differences. Find a reputable dealer (that could be hard - first time buying, how do you evaluate whether a dealer is reputable). Know the reasonable price for a particular firearm.

I can't remember ever buying a gun where the seller did not open the box for me to inspect while he verified the serial number.

What we have here is another first post rant by a dissatisfied new owner for something they could have prevented if they had acted with due diligence prior to purchase.

What do you mean " factory sealed"?
What dealer did you buy them from?

Default Thank You

Thanks to all for the replies sorry for the non response to the forum I have been out of state on Vacation. We were in Vegas up until yesterday so no checking forums. He has now purchased a red dot sight for the rifle, and I found a sight that has the mags super cheap for factory mags less than 15.00 each so I ordered 20 of them also got free shipping on the mags. And while I was ordering I bought an additional 5 for my regular MP15 Sport II so we are good now will not bother sending back for sights.

Default New MP22

Also for the gun show purchases I have bought many items a gun shows here in the Dallas Fort Worth area and have always had very good luck. The pricing is usually cheaper than purchasing at big box stores at least here. The two rifles that I purchased on that weekend were $50.00 dollars cheaper than the same exact rifle at Academy which is my local go to store for guns and gun related items if it is something I need quickly. The dealer that I bought from is a local shop owner and I called him after receiving the gun back from Smith and he offered to give me a set of sights for free but we opted to just get a red dot. And don't rag on people about not checking this or that or disgruntled first time posters everybody misses something once in a while sorry not everyone is a certified professional firearm purchaser like some of you guys profess.

Just one of those deals. Live and learn. Over time I'd order a firearm online, pick it up from my ffl and go home. After a thorough cleaning and such I'd discover one thing or another. Usually cosmetic but it'd piss me off a little. As time passed, no matter how greasy, etc, I learned to scrutinize closely before signing for it. In my case, that's the price paid at times when buying on the blind. 20 additional magazines? Goodness, it's play time!

My post was not intended as a "rag" on you...... the "factory sealed box" was new and strange to me..... though I can see where a dealer might do it for a gunshow.

I will say I'd never accept a gun with a wood stock sight unseen!
