I live in the "People's Republic of NJ".
In NJ, a rifle can not have a stock that can collapse.

When I picked up my M&P 15-22 from the FFL, the stock was locked and didn't move. The rifle was advertised as being NJ compliant.

Somehow during use at the range, whatever kept the stock locked has come loose, fallen off or whatever. The stock can now collapse, which technically makes me illegal.

Since I don't need or want the hassle of running foul of NJ's stupid gun laws, are there any gurus out there who can tell me what I need to do to lock the stock into place, so it doesn't move?

And before you say it, moving to a gun friendly state is not an option at this time.

I believe the fixed stock version has a roll pin that locks the stock in place. I'd phone S&W, explain the problem and see if they'll mail you one. I'd use jewelers epoxy to insure it doesn't fall out again.

Simply re-lock the stock in its original location and you're good to go.

Roll pins simply do not "fall out."

If you have the same setup as this guy I'd do the following: Separate the 2-piece stock.

Examine the "inner" tube at the point where the pin has its final resting place. If need be, drill that recess just a small depth more, perhaps another 1/16".
Inside that round recess I would put a nice dot of strong glue. Just about half of the hole depth. Reassemble the two parts. Put a little glue all over the pin. Insert and let it set up a while. If you observe that the "inner" tube has plenty of depth to retain the pin, don't worry with making it any deeper. But I would fill it halfway with strong glue. Roll pins and plastic aren't the best of friends at times.

From what I have read, it is not at all unusual after having fired a number of rounds that the pin indeed loosens and exits the stock.

Oh NO Bubba and a Dremel.. all he had to do was take the right sized straight punch. Knock the pin out and move on.

Reckon I'm one of those "bubbas" w/ a dremel too. Used them smartly for years on firearms with no negative results (knock on wood). He did just fine and seems like a good young adult. Helped a friend's kids out (shorter stock) and I thought that was pretty cool. Watched a few of his other videos. Certainly enjoys his shooting hobby.
