From the horse's mouth.
This should be of small comfort to those having issues with their 'out of the box' 15-22's experiencing issues.
Response from S&W after a query.
"Are you going to address the issue many are having with the 15-22 and the ejector/extractor issue? the many reports on numerous forums is giving this great rifle a bad rep."
"Smith & Wesson Corp. We are aware of the issue. Although it is a very small percentile within the firearms out in the market. We continue to investigate this issue and have since improved the manufacturing of the extractor."
So they ARE aware!

Wasn't aware of a wide-spread extractor problem which is consistent and validates my daily level of awareness.

I don't know if I would call it wide-spread but on the FB forum I am a member of...there are more than the odd reference of people having FTF and FTE and Stovepipes from an out of the box new rifle. I sent my message to S&W via FB and that is how they responded.
Just to clarify...I have the VQ extractor but have never had any type of issue with my gen1 15-22 ever, factory extractor included....I love mine to bits, maybe a little too much....my Anschutz 1417 is certainly jealous

Maybe that's what's taking them so long to repair my new Victory 22? They both use the same 15-22 extractor and 3 weeks after I bought it, it flew away during normal usage. S&W had it since November...

Thanks GM. I do have a VQ as backup but so far so good. Real good. Last week, 5 skunks in 36 hours. Four around 9:30 pm to midnight and the 5th at about 5:45am. Same here, my 10/22 is most jealous these days. Guess I'll need to bring it out.

I had no idea they were the same.
Check out the more aggressive tailhook extractor and improved plunger.
New, more powerful springs will be available soon
