Default Scopes?

In case I give up on the factory sights I'm looking at three rimfire scopes all are 2-7 x 32. The Nikon P22, Bushnell and Vortex. I am familiar with the outstanding Vortex CS and warranty and have a Diamondback and a Crossfire II on air rifles. What experiences have you had with the scopes and CS? Any issues with fixed parallax? My other scopes are AO from 10 yds to infinity. Recommendations or comments welcomed.
Thanks

On my 15-222 I use Vortex Strikefire II red dot. Works great. I have a Vortex 1-6 Strike Eagle on an AR and like it too.

I have the Nikon P-22 2-7 X 32 with the BDC reticle. I believe you can get the regular reticle also. Nikon has a computer app where you enter the ammo brand and type you are using and it gives the distances for the lower BDC circles. I have mine sighted in at 50 yards and find the BDC circles very accurate at longer distances. Have had mine for 4 years and find that it is a very good scope for the 15-22.

I don't have an optic on my 15-22 yet. The only brand I've had to deal with CS with has been Nikon and they were outstanding. I have two of the M308 scopes that are very clear and outside of the initial inability to zero the one, no problems. Nikon gave me an RA and a shipping label to send in just the scope and nothing else. They verified it was bad and sent me a complete new scope, caps, and rail mount in a box off the shelf.

I've heard good things on Vortex but don't own one. I've heard good things about Bushnell's CS but as far as the scope, it depends on which one as far as if it is any good or not. They make low end Tasco type stuff all the way to top shelf. So without knowing the model, no idea.

From memory, most .22LR dedicated scopes are parallaxed at 75 yards, which seems to be good.

As far as recommendations, it depends on what you are looking for and using it for. Are you set on 2-7X? If not, Primary Arms makes a 1-6X scope for .22LR that might be of interest. A number of their scopes are made by the same factories as the big names. Vortex being one of the names. Leupold makes a very nice fixed 4X for .22LR as well. PA sells a fixed 6X that has good reviews but I think that magnification is a bit high for a fixed magnification on an optic.

In bowzette's original post regarding mini mags I had attached a photo of my 15-22. A couple of posters gave me good information about how I had the Nikon P-22 mounted and suggested I change the mounting to get the front mount off the handguard rail to eliminate possible accuracy issues. Changed the mounting this morning. Now need to get to range and re-sight. Thanks for all the great information.

Looks good Tom. I have that same scope on my 15-22 in a Burris PEPR mount. For the price,I’m happy with this scopes performance. IMG_5337.jpg

I am pretty happy with my Nikon P-22.
The optics are pretty dam good and the variable zoom comes in real handy.

Default Get the P-22 :D

I've had the Nikon P-22 with a Burris PEPR mount for about five years. Excellent piece of glass. Crystal clear even in low light. The rapid action turrets are great for dialing in your distance. Zeroed it at 50 yards and I get 1 inch groups at 75 yards from a rest. The 2x7 magnification is perfect for 22LR. I've put over 7000 rounds through my rifle with this mounted and it has held zero.

My only regret was not spending the extra $20 to get the PEPR Quick Detach. Would be nice to switch back and forth between irons and the P-22.

My only experience with customer service was when there was a recall on the Turrets (apparently the distances were marked incorrectly. They sent me two sets of replacement turrets.)

I believe this scope has been upgraded and is now called the P-TACTICAL Rimfire 2-7x32 and comes with a lifetime no fault warranty.

P-TACTICAL Rimfire 2-7x32 MK1-MOA from Nikon

Seriously, most of my scopes are Leupold or Burris and a few vintage steel tube ElPaso Weavers but I was given a BSA Sweet 22 with target turrets and I am amazed at what a decent scope it is. Not a Leupold certainly but a good little scope on my bull barreled 10/22.

Agreed. I bought a Sweet 22 scope, and cleaned the lenses, and then my eyes, and STILL thought it was a blurry view. Handed it to the wife and asked "Are my eyes really that bad?". She looked through it and said, "Well if they are, then mine are too, because it looks out of focus." There wasn't enough focus left to focus. I sent it back and bought a Nikon. It's sharp and crystal clear. Thank the Lord it wasn't my eyes! No more BSA for me.

I would hazard that every mid to lower level scope manufacturer out there has some horror stories floating around. I can tell you one about Bushnell that happened over 40 years ago and has caused me to never buy another Bushnell product - but despite my personal boycott, they are still around and some people swear by them. So while the failure rate on mid to lower priced glass may be higher, they must still make some acceptable stuff or they would be out of business. Heck I own a 24x Tasco that has been mounted on several rifles and has never given me a moment of regret. Not as clear optically, but it does what I want.

Better brew some coffee.....here goes.

I had a BSA stealth tactical scope on my 15-22 first of all...
had really nice fancy aperture style lens caps...all swish. Not knowing much better I thought the glass was crystal clear...thought it was a decent scope. After the third time of using it the zero started to jump. Made sure the rifle was okay, concluded it must be the mounts, bought better mounts. Still weird fluctuations.

Then on the next night, I had a competition and thought I'd be able to wing the fluctuations...only for the fancy aperture scope caps to cease to open on the objective end...had to shoot the comp looking through a pinhole (left irons at home).
Contacted supplier, who said they had no replacement and being mid comp season I could not wait for a replacement, so they gave me a credit note and discount if I made a same day choice and purchase.

Bought an MTC viper connect with which I have never had one issue. Was amazed at the clarity and light collection of the scope...a crystal clear view and sharp reticle.

So that BSA scope led me to experience the truth to the saying that if you buy cheap you will pay twice. I only wish I had the cash to blow on high end Vortex or Eotech etc. I don't. I now know enough though to go to the upper end of my budget when buying optics. Although I am aware that all budget scopes are not like this particular one but I stand by my decision to not buy cheap optics again.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Frankly , I just went on E-bay and bought an (I imagine a Chinese knockoff) Northstar brand scope. 3X9. Red & green redicle. Had it 2 years. Holds zero just fine. My rationale , it's a .22. No recoil. No complaints from me.

Hard to beat a Nikon Rimfire series. I have two, one on my M&P 22 and one on my Ruger 10-22.
