Default 25 rd magazine follower sticks in the middle.

Greetings,

Short version, the orange followers of 3 magazines failed in the same way at the same time and will not slide up and down in the magazine. Anybody else have this problem?

Thank you for any explanation or help you can provide.

Longer version:
I have had my 15-22 for about 6 months. Often I will leave it in a bag in my car, never sure when I will be going to the range. Mags have always been loaded and ready to go. Last weekend I went to the range and left the empty mags in the car for a couple of days. When I tired to reload them, the orange follower would not slide the length of the magazine.

I tried cleaning them with air, and even took them apart and tried soapy water. Eventually I broke one open and found the follower just did not fit in the groove it belonged in.

I sanded the sides down enough for them to be smooth again. Hopefully they will work, have not tried them yet. Any ideas on what would cause this. Very strange for all 3 to fail at the same time in exactly the same way.

I know the heat from the car will be the first suspect, but that really isn't that hot and should not be enough to melt quality polymer. Even left on a dash board, it was the ribbon of a cassette tape the melted, not the casing.

Leaving firearms and ammo locked in a hot vehicle is not a good idea. In several parts of the country, trunk temps, especially if the vehicle is parked in the sun, can approach 150 degrees even this late in the year. These temps can cause catastrophic pressures in ammo if the rounds are fired hot.
