Default New 15-22 update -- more range trips

I've been wanting a .22 AR for a while. At the Gun Show they were new in box for $339. So I got one and two extra mags, $400 out the door.

I don't know anything about them. What's their reliability factor? (It will be only for plinking).

What can y'all tell me?

Mine chews through anything I care to throw at it, including Remington.

Are they hard to take apart and clean?

Congratulations!!!!

I suspect you will love the M&P 15-22. Great plinker and lots of fun at the range. After thousands and thousands of rounds, I've never had a problem with any ammo.

Federal - several different types.
Winchester
CCI minimags
CCI Tactical
Remington Golden Bullet

Round nose or hollow point it eats it all as long as you load the magazines according to the manual. The rounds should be staggered in the magazine.

Just stay away from sub-sonic as it usually won't cycle the action.

Read the manual and give it a good cleaning removing all factory applied preservative. Then take it out, have fun and please give us a range report.

It's quite fun to shoot. Only issues I've had have been FTF. Just a couple and I suspect it's the ammo though not 100% certain. Easy to take apart and clean yes. Enjoy!

Easy maintenance. Keep it clean and lubed and it will work just great!

I'd like to convert it into M4 configuration. There's a thread on it, but it looks like too much trouble.

Anyway, I have 2 cases of Blazer Cci ..22lr on the way. Should be fun.

I bet going through the conversion process would be a fun learning experience. If you do decide to upgrade to the M4 configuration I would be happy to purchase the factory MLOK hand guard from you.

Once you get out to the range you may actually like the factory configuration. It is just so much fun. Especially rapid fire. Every time I am at the range I hand mine to someone along with a full mag. They always hand it back with a big smile and say. "Wow! That is a fun gun!"

Gun came with one 25 round mag. Do I get more 25s, or are the 10 round more range friendly?

I prefer ten round short magazines when shooting from the bench, so I would get some of them, but it won't hurt to get some 25 rounders too.

There are two versions of the ten round magazines. One is the same size as the 25 rounder, but is limited to 10. The other is short. (get those ones)

I picked one up in early January and I've really had fun with it.

Mine needed the ejector adjustment(s) that have been posted on many forums. Once adjusted, it's been free of the FTF/FTL/Stove-pipe issues.

I like the short 10-round magazines for bench shooting.
The 25-round magazines get used when wandering the woods.

Mine is pretty accurate.
It came flat-top, so I added a 1-8 Vortex to it (until I find that scope's permanent home).

I’ve been thinking about one of these as a cheaper way to stay proficient with my MP15. Ideally I’d put the same optic on both. The .22 could be used at any gun range, while the 5.56 is limited to rifle-friendly places. Hard to justify, with a 10/22 in the safe. Same fun, different shape.

The M&P 15-22 is a great trainer for the M&P15, although it is much lighter.

Love shooting a 10/22, it is fun, but not the same fun as a 15-22. In my opinion the 15-22 is way more fun. It brings big smiles to everyone who shoots it.

When buying magazines be sure they have a loading button. For some reason, some mags come without a loading button and hold open. The magazine can be loaded without the button but the lack of a gold open is a real hinderance.

Took it to the range for the first time.

The sights were very close to perfect at 50 yards. Two kinds of ammo were used: Federal Champion blue box, and Aguila high velocity.

Blue Box Federal had a few stovepipes, but Smith ran it a lot more reliably than the Ruger 10-22 does (I bought the Champion during the Panic and when it's gone, no more).

Aguila worked 100%.

This gun is way cool.
Everybody needs one of these.

More range time. This thing is WAY cool. The kids love it. After the LE6920 conversion,
it gets many looks at the range. But it soaks up ammo fast! You shoot and shoot until you run out of bullets.

My Son and I bought our M&P 15-22`s several years ago when they first came out. And neither one of us has had any type of problem with either of them. They shoot any type of 22 ammo we have tried in them and shoots them extremely well. I use mine for just about everything from 22 actions shoot`s at our gun club. To small game hunting. To just out taking a walk in the woods or plinking on the river. I am getting older now ((( 75 yrs old ))) and the lightweight of my M&P 15-22 and its handy length and size are really comfortable to me. My only real problem now is that my very special old Marlin 39-A, that I have had since 1963 stays in my gun safe most of the time now.

The 15-22 has become very popular here in the last 18 months. At my club there has long been talk of setting up mininrifle events. Since the March 15 incident in Christchurch and the subsequent banning of centrefire semi-auto’s the 15-22’s have been making appearances on Sunday mornings for use on our semi-permanently set up IPSC stages. The grins afterward have been good to see.

The 15-22 costs more than a 10-22 here, but by the time the Ruger has received all the necessary upgrades for reliable range shooting the comparisons are about even.

Make sure you get a McFadden loader with the 15-22 adaptor if you don‘t already have one (thanks Bill and Garry. Both my mate and I are making good use of the ones you got me last year.).

The only downside is all the .22 brass left lying on the range. When shooting 9mm or 45 ACP brass can be hard to find amount all the glittering mini cases left on the ground.
