15-22 Sport Handguard M-LOK Question
Greetings all!
I hope everyone is doing well. If not, I hope things get better for you soon. I'm having a bit of an issue and I don't know if the problem is with the handguard or me.
I own a 15-22 Sport with the " 10” M&P® Slim Handguard with MAGPUL® M-LOK™ ". I like it a lot but it seems like I am only able to use the side and bottom M-LOK slots. The diagonal slots; if you will, seem to be too thin and I cannot get any M-LOK attachment to fit in them. Are these "diagonal" slots cosmetic only or am I doing something wrong?
Please see attached pictures and thank you for your time.
Eric

If I'm not mistaken, only the slots at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock positions will work with the M-Lok accessories.

Thank you very much. Glad it's not me doing it wrong.

While you're at it, free-float your barrel by trimming the end cap. It may not help, but it can't hurt none.

May I ask - what is this mod supposed to help with?

The handguard should not be in contact with the barrel. Contact with the barrel affects the accuracy so the picture showing the area cut away is one more step to eliminate the contact.

You learn something new everyday! Thank you for the tip!
Is it ok to just remove the ring instead of cutting it?

You can remove it but if you notice any difference with this gun, it'll be the placebo effect. No harm though.

I just got my 15-22 sport, and I do not like this handguard. Does anyone know how to remove it? I have big hands and want to switch it out for the quad rail system I had on my old AR-15, but for the life of me I can't find ant instructions for removing this M-loc handguard. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

You need a designated 15-22 barrel nut wrench. See link below:
