Not good to hear, mines been flawless... so far. Clean the bore and put some fresh oil on the moving parts and try again. Hopefully it will get to function reliably.

Mine had some waxy white stuff on the spring and bolt that came off with cleaning... not sure what it was, but the action seemed quite a bit smoother after cleaning. I'll be shooting it again next week, so I'll report back.

I just purchased one of the yesterday. Looks fun to shoot.

One question though....

What is all the white stuff on the bolt spring and scattered around the bolt and hammer?

Is is OK to shoot or is it corrosion on the spring?

It would not come off with CLP.

I think the white stuff may have been some kind of powder lubricant?

In my case after the first shooting trip it was coming off the spring/bolt in flakes, almost like paint, so I just cleaned it off. It came off very easily with M-Pro7 cleaner and a toothbrush.

Still not sure what its actual purpose was...

It's paint to identify the spring weight, just like the blue paint on the full size version. who every applied it went a bit overboard.

Picked one up today. Point Blank Shooting in Illinois had a bunch of them in stock $499. If you give them your email address online they give you a coupon code for another $10 off. They also thru in 2 free range passes for their indoor range.

I'm assuming the white stuff is jus a light paint they use to identify the spring, like blue on carbines. I didn't touch this white flaky stuff but I did put a drop of oil on the guide rod, some on the bolt rails, wiped the bolt face and swabbed bore and went to range and had some fun; no issues.

My Magpul AFG finally showed up, and the case I ordered for the 15-22 showed up early...

As noted earlier in the thread, I was looking for something a little 'discreet', but also compact for transporting the 15-22 pistol. After shopping some interesting choices (ukelele case, tennis case, etc), I settled on a "Savior" case, available on Amazon and eBay for ~$50.

This particular case is 24", and a perfect fit for the 15-22. It's imported (isn't everything?), but well constructed of heavy duty materials. It's actually a "two gun" case, but is really better suited to one. Three large outside pockets, two of which are perfect for two mags each.

Ultimately, not as discreet as a tennis case, but it doesn't scream "GUN!" as bad as the subgun cases with obvious mag pouches on the outside.

EDIT: posted a more in-depth review of the case here: "Savior" AR Pistol case review

Did just this and shot it again with multiple ammo brands. Here is what the malfunction looks like. I will be calling S&W today.

Looks like it's extracting, but not ejecting properly. Hopefully they'll get that sorted for you promptly.

birdshooter, If your chamber is clean and free of burs, that problem could be a 15-22 ejector alignment problem. It requires a needle nose pliers to fix. Search the forum to identify bolt/ ejector alignment. Ejector misalignment can happen from the factory or from bending the ejector while cleaning.

Compare your ejector and bolt alignment from these videos to see if the problem is an misaligned ejector issue.

Thanks for the info and videos. I figure it is an easy fix and am not concerned about it. I will be letting S&W take the needle nose to it though. It is on its way to Springfield tomorrow.

Went to my favorite indoor range and gunshop today to celebrate my retirement. Put 150 or so 9mm downrange thru 2 of my M&P9s. Got done shooting and went looking at their inventory and low n behold there hangs a M&P 1522P. I kind of wanted one years ago when they first came out and I procrastinated long enough that they discontinued them. But now I'm glad I didn't get one then. Anyway, brought it home with me and will order a red dot for it this afternoon.

I was at my LGS yesterday and he has two of these 15-22 pistols! I'd love to get one but I can't justify it. I already have the 15-22 Sport Rifle and I just recently bought a Extar EP9 (braced 9mm pistol). My LGS has the 15-22 pistols priced at $450.00

I took my new pistol to the range today and after 100+ rounds it started doing what birdshooter's pistol did. I was shooting minimags so that shouldn't be an issue. So I changed magazines and used a magazine that I use for my 15-22 rifle. Worked perfectly. Tried the new magazine again and major issues. Could it be a mag issue?

The mag appears to be the issue in your case, however, historically the ejector getting tweaked is more common. S&W C/S is quite helpful. Give them a ring.

I tried multiple magazines, including two that have been reliable in my rifle and had the issue with all magazines. S&W was real quick to have me send it in. They will get it fixed.

Took mine out this morning. It digests any CCI branded ammo perfectly, even standard velocity. Probably put 100 Mini Mags and 30 standard velocity rounds thru it. Now the bad news...it hates Norma Tac22 which is a favorite of my 1522 carbine. Would not shoot more than 3 without jamming, very similar to the pics that Birdshooter has posted. I put 25 rounds of Fiocchi Super Match and had it jam once. Used the mag that came with it and two 10 round mags and 4 of the 25 round mags I have for the 1522 carbine. All functioned fine except when they were loaded with Tac22.
Took my new Ruger PC9 Carbine with me also and put 75 rounds thru it. Between shooting both of these, I came close to breaking the fun barrier.

I picked one up to mimic my wife’s 5.56 pistol, same sights, same everything except her AR has a Shockwave brace, and of corse is a bit heavier.
Man, this thing is my new favorite, even like it better than my full size 15-22!

ETA...
I’ll probably change out the MagPul pistol grip to a Ergo, it’s on her other one, and for some reason the MP gap just bugs me.

One of the few “pistols” that seem to be readily available. For now, I’ll stay with my 15-22.

Received my 15-22 pistol back from S&W this morning. I cleaned and lubed it, loaded up five magazines and headed out back to test fire it. And.....12 rounds in it started doing the exact same thing. Ugh. Frustrating for sure. Again, I tried multiple magazines that are proven to be reliable in my rifle and multiple ammunition types, again reliable in my rifle.

The work order says that the performed service was evaluate/repair, repair ejector.

I guess they forgot to test fire it! The bolt was plenty dirty but I really wonder if they only fired three or five rounds and called it good.

The customer service representative said she was going to make a note to a supervisor indicating that this will be the second time this one will be back for the same issue. Headed to Springfield tomorrow.

Stay tuned....

I wanted to update this thread. I received the pistol back much quicker this time with the performed service listed as: evaluate/repair, cannot duplicate customer complaint, passed range testing.

I loaded up a magazine with Federal American Eagle, and it failed to eject on the 12th round. Argh!!!! Extremely frustrating. I called S&W Customer Service and asked for a detailed explanation of what they did and what ammunition they used. I was told they inspected everything and it was to spec. They fired one full magazine and they did not experience any failures. They used Federal ammunition. The representative then told me that they do their test firing from a bench, with no human element involved. I explained that the gun is meant to be held while firing and if it only functions from a bench, what good is it? I asked if I can send a video of me firing the gun and was given instructions on how to do that. I will be working on getting that sent as soon as possible. I will continue to keep you posted.

Any others that have had issues, have you had any luck getting it corrected?

I cleaned the new 15-22 pistol today. I took it to the range with 5 mags and the McFadden Machine Lightnin' Grip Loader. I shot 750 rounds from the shoulder in 15 minutes. 500 CCI Standard Velociy and 250 Mini Mags. I had 1 FTE.

It will make the kids smile. It will make a good combo with the 15-22 rifle and 15-22 4.5" SBR. We can now all shoot at the same time. I'm glad I bought it.

Jeez I guess I'd be asking them to refund me my money, email them a copy of my sales receipt, and tell them its in a UPS back to them.

I think of myself and reading and keeping up on firearm laws. What I do not understand is how these type offerings (and there tons of them in various calibers) get around being a short barreled rifle (SBR)? I am not against it in any way, it just seems like suddenly what would have taken a tax stamp, is now for sale by every manufacturer out there. Spec sheet attached.

It doesn't have a stock, it has an 'arm brace', therefore it's a pistol, not a rifle.

Yes, it's a wink/nod/nudge kind of thing, but the ATF accepted it, and is now stuck with it.

IMHO, SBRs and suppressors should have been removed from the NFA a long time ago, so I have no problem with it.

Thanks Rodan for the simple and easy explanation. I agree completely about SBR's and suppressors from NFA. I say that as I sit here and wait for my suppressor.

I am getting the runaround from Smith. I sent a video of the malfunction per their request. Did not reply and I called. Customer service rep called over to the repair department while I was on hold. The person who watched the video said it was the magazine. I promptly shut that down as I had explained multiple times in writing that several reliable mags were tested and the issue occurred regardless pf mag. I was then told that 50 rounds of CCI were used when Smith tested it the last time. I again shut this down because I was told previously that 25 rounds of Federal were used to test.

The inconsistency and almost arrogant response to a 15 second video frustrates me immensely. I requested that the gun be replaced and it is on its way back to S&W for the third time. Again I will keep you posted.

How many of the first gen M&P 1522pistols were produced? I was told only a few. I have one with “The Armory Gunsmith” adaptor to replace the QD ring and mount with an adaptor for a buffer tube. Then I installed a KNS rear picatinny rail for a SB tactical 1913 brace. Just wondering how many of the original 1522 pistols there were.
