Hi, how i can convert my MP15 Moe

I need a 22lr short barrel and remove the but.
what´s the easyest and cheapest option?

It was a rifle so it would still be a rifle, but then with a too short barrel and too short overall length.

Short answer is you can't, not legally speaking. Once a rifle, always a rifle.

Some clarification to the above for the novices among us:
Assuming you are in the USA and subject to the laws of the land, it is not legal to convert a rifle to a pistol. You can shorten the barrel and remove the stock but then rather than a pistol it is considered a short barrel rifle (SBR). This is something you need to ask the federal government pretty-please with a $200 tax-stamp and other red-tape on top to be able to do legally. Then you need to figure out if a SBR is legal in your state.
I don't know but also I suspect there is a good chance the parts may have been designed to NOT interchange for that reason, I know that's something they did on the AR-7 pistol and rifle to prevent folks from just swapping parts. So even if you lived in a country that didn't care or wanted to do the federal paperwork and pay the fees, and the state you lived in would allow a SBR, you might still need a gunsmith to make some modifications.
The bad news is what you want pretty much isn't going to happen, the good news is you have a great excuse for buying another firearm!

For $500 you can buy the new S&W AR15-22 Pistol. And then sell your 16 inch gun. Which you may regret later.

The original pistols were made from converted rifles at S&W.

This is a way to do it.

Fill out a eForm 1 and pay $200 to the BATFE/NFA branch for a SBR.
Once the forms comes back, in around 1- 12 months, you can start the process.
Chop the hand guards.
Chop the stock.
Cut down and thread the barrel. The OEM was 6".
Engrave the makers info on the receiver or barrel.
Mill material from the bolt like the original pistols. There are images on line to see the difference.

That's what I did. I also had one the the OEM pistols to help research but
I sold it for stupid money. My SBR has a 4.5" barrel. Here's all three.



But I like the new pistols more. I would recommend buying one. It more accurate with the brace.

Just call me Capt. Obvious, but I think the honest answer to the question of how to convert a standard M&P15 to a pistol version of the M&P15-22 is to sell the M&P15 and buy the pistol version of the M&P15-22.

This appears the be the cheapest, legal, and most reliable way of getting what you want from what you already have. It doesn't involve after-market conversion kits, federal paperwork or tax stamps, hand machining, voiding your warranty, etc. My suggestion is legal, relatively quick, involves no additional requests for permits/tax stamps, requires no gunsmithing on your part and you get a warranty on your new firearm.

I Live in Spain, the law are similar, but we can do this

In Spain, gun permision is only for security, army or police. As a general rule, a citizen can not have a 9mm or .40 gun (only jewelers accredited or threatened by terrorism)

The citizens only can buy a 22. pistol if they are federated in sports shooting, paying 150*/month and qualifying evidence every short time not to lose license.

I prefer modify my MP15.

DO NOT post a You-Tube video of how you make your conversion .
There are ATF Agents that look for such things ... convictions are easy with that kind of evidence .
You may not want to post very much at all about doing this .
There might be a law or two aginst doing such a conversion .

In the USA if you have a short barrel rifle, there are other rules to consider. If I decide to take my SBR from Kansas to Ohio to visit my son, I’m supposed to notify every state between here and there that I have the gun with me. Currently, if I have a pistol with a brace, there is no such requirement. I have a Sig MPX which was configured at the factory as a pistol. I added a stock, a vertical grip to the forearm and a suppressor which made it an SBR. So that cost $400 in tax stamps, cost of the parts, and had it engraved with the name of my trust. A pistol with a brace at that time, would have avoided the NSA. But it now looks like they’d like a pistol with a brace to be an SBR.

Here in The United States, a receiver that's already been recorded as belonging to a rifle cannot legally be converted into a pistol.

A virgin reciever that's never been recorded as being assembled, or was reported as being part of a pistol, can legally be converted to a rifle and even back again to a pistol.

Dumb regulation, but here we are.

Op is in Spain where such a conversion is legal.

If it is legal where you are you just buy a short barrel upper or replace the barrel.

The AR pistol vs a typical AR, the pistol is generally more concealable, it normally has very noticeably shorter barrel and more fun.

A little off topic, but when building an AR pistol, it’s important that the stripped lower receiver be designated a pistol when it is first obtained from an FFL.

You can always cut your barrel with a saw if you really wanted one. Call Smith and wesson your country and ask about a barrel or a full upper

The problem with that is an un-built receiver is listed on the 4473 not as a pistol, not as a rifle, it is listed as OTHER and cannot be transferred to a person under 21.
