Default Recommended trigger replacement?

Hi all,

First post on this forum. I’m a new owner of a 15/22, I’m looking to replace the trigger group.

I’ve read lots about the various brands who do this, but I wanted to ask you experienced users what you think are the brands to check out for this replacement.

I’m based in the U.K. so hopefully I’ll be able to find a brand who are also able/willing to ship to the U.K. (No idea why lots of brands are against this as I’m happy to cover the import fees?)

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I've never seen the need. Have you found the original
somehow not usable?. Everyone is different to be sure... what works
for me may not work for the next person. I would suggest doing a few hundred rounds before moving on.

I like the Rise Armament RA-140 SST (Super Sporting Trigger). Excellent build quality, 3.5-lb pull, and easy to install yourself.

With some patience, you can generally find these online for less than $100 shipped (my last one cost only $89 from JoeBobOutfitters.com but I don't see it on the web site right now).

A quick Google search comes up with this link, although I have never done business with them:

$89 at WC Armory: Rise Armament Black Fallout RA-140 Super Sporting Trigger with Anti-Walk Pins, Add to Cart for lowest price Rise Armament RA-140PK 851046006804 IN STOCK ON SALE FOR SALE, WCArmory

Good luck!

My suggestion: Shoot about 500 rounds through it prior to making a decision to replace the factory trigger. You may find it to be quite satisfactory for your actual needs and intended purpose. Then again, perhaps you won't, but at least you will know.... and you will have a benchmark that you can compare your new trigger group performance to. At a minimum I would like to know how much improvement I got for the expense of new parts.

agree - shoot it first then decide if the factory trigger is not working for you.

I am a trigger snob and have found very few factory triggers I really like. For replacements I have gone to Timney Triggers and always found them to my liking.

Thanks for the replies and links, I’ll certainly put a few hundred rounds through the gun first before deciding, and I’ll use the links above if I do take the plunge, I’m sure I will as I’m a bit of a tinkerer, love taking guns apart and getting to know them better!

Welcome to the Forum!
I should have said that in my last post!
Congratulations on the new 15/22. I'm sure you will enjoy it, and there seems to be a good following for them here.

Useful suggestions on this thread about the trigger. Mine seems very rough, and has an odd reset feel(light click and bump and then further release gives a louder, real, reset of the trigger). I plan on running several hundred rounds through and see how the trigger feels after more break-in (hoping it'll feel like other 15-22s I've shot, which seem fine).

I have several ARs and by comparison, the trigger assembly of my 15-22 is heads above those. With that said, depending on what you're seeking as upgrades and your budget, there's easily room for improvement. I personally use the Hiperfire 24C set at approx 2 lbs. Perhaps too light of a pull for some but I like it as is. The 24C is now designated as the Competition model. Great adjustable, heavy-duty trigger assembly.

Not all drop in triggers will work on rimfires. Takes more oomph to ignite a rimfire than a center fire. I use CMC exclusively in all my AR’s because they always work and they are reasonably priced. Not sure if they are available in the UK.

It is probably a good idea to obtain the CMC Anti-Walk trigger & hammer pins (or the KN$ ones?) specifically designed for the M&P 15-22 when replacing with a drop-in trigger. I'll concur that the standard S&W mil-spec trigger is not a bad one to begin with, but...

Cheers!

P.S. I have the aforementioned Rise Armament trigger and used their supplied anti-walk pins on another "conventional" AR lower.

I tried the rise armament 140 and had nothing but issues with it and sent it back I then got a CMC with anti walk pins at 3 lbs. and so far I've ran about 8-10 thousand rounds through the rifle with no issues with the trigger. I also installed a Tacom 3g ulw barrel and crazy Ivan hand grip to lighten up the rifle. This diet took the rifle from 5.5 lbs down to 3lbs 6ozs. I use it in Steel Challenge.

Had 2 RA-140s. Have greater than 10 other aftermarket assemblies. Regarding cassette-types, I consider the RA-140 the most entry-level. Unrelated to that ranking, I had an issue with the first years ago when installing into a DPMS Oracle. Long story short, the DPMS and 1-2 other brands lower receiver well specs would not allow installation / function of the RA-140. Ultimately, had to remove a small amount of metal from the front corners of trigger assembly housing. As it turns out, RA was fully aware of the issue yet made a conscious decision to not publicize it in any sales pitches, literature, etc. After learning that (have email proof from them regarding problem), told them to pound sand. Never again.

FWIW, I just had my new 15-22 at the range, and shooting groups to zero the sights I was impressed that the trigger was quite good.

All three of my 5.56 ARs have aftermarket triggers, and I had budgeted for a ALG QMT for the 15-22, but now I won't bother...

YMMV...

Red face

I just got my new M&P 15-22P last week. I took it to the range yesterday and I was very impressed. I Fired about 300 rounds and all went well. All the shots were nice and very well grouped at 30m. Trigger was very nice for a factory trigger. I’m having second thoughts about replacing it. Just a very nice pistol overall. I’m glad I got it for my kids, after watching them shot my 5.56 pistol.
