15-22 Feed ramp
I have been having occasional failures to feed, with the bullet jammed into the edge of the chamber. The bullet is damaged, with a line cut in the nose and the bullet is loose and angled in the brass. It seems to be worse with hollow point ammo. It happens with CCI SV and Minimags, Aguila and Blazer ammo. It happens with multiple magazines. The feed ramp and chamber appear to need polishing (see attached photo). I have ordered a barrel wrench and will see if I can correct this problem with a Dremel.

I have never had a jamming problem, but I do polish the feed ramp with Flitz polishing compound when it gets dirty.
Most hardware stores carry it.

I don't let a Dremel get near any of my firearms.

Rotary tools are fantastic in the right hands (like mine).

First, great post...
Failure to feed and ammo companies...
I shoot a number of guns, and enjoy
the 22LR due to the economy and fun.
Like many of you, I tend to grab what
I can find unless it's a ripoff price.
I have also probably seen every YouTube
video on both the 15-22 and 22LR ammo.
Some like everything, Some hate everything,
and few - a mix. They are earning a few dollars
on what they say, right?.
What "I" have found is a bit different from
the YouTube consensus.
Case in point is the Remington Golden bullet.
I had gotten 2 tubs for a very good price and
so started shooting some.
My 2 15-22's shot it fine, my M&P22 Compact
didn't seem to like it as well, the error was
in the pistols extraction function.
But it wasn't until I used it in my Ruger
Wrangler that I think I saw the issue.
The spent cartridge flared slightly at the
the bullet end - 1 of 100 times.
Interesting...
The 15-22's extraction system handled this
without a problem.
So, range data.
In a recent visit and use of 250 rounds of
Golden bullet, only one seemed to be a ammo
malfunction, another was even more interesting.
It was a human caused magazine error.
That is right, I have watched and obeyed all
of the best practice recommendations in loading
these, but found that every now and then I didn't
get the alternating pattern the mag likes.
I found that if I cycled the spring while loading
I could achieve a perfect pattern, but I had to
watch and be sure I did it right.
My results with CCI mini mags and AR tactical
were about the same, 1-2 issues per 250 rounds.
I think the S&W 15-22 mags are well designed, but
certainly NOT perfect or precision items. 1 in say
10 might have a glitch in the first few uses. That
smoothers out from my experience.
For say $25 the 15-22 magazine is great.
YMMV

If you don't know what you're doing it could get a little dicey, especially with a grinding/cutting type head. But for polishing, with one of the felt heads and some polishing compounds (like Flitz) they work great.

Yep. Gotta be smart about it. I use assorted Cratex attachments on my rotaries when working on guns and such and their more industrial wheels on larger stuff.

Update
I got the barrel wrench and polished the feed ramp and chamber with felt tipped Dremel bits and polishing compound. The whole process took less than an hour and was very easy to do.
I went to the range today and got the rifle sighted in. Windage was good, but the elevation was off low by about 4 inches at 7 yards. I dialed it a bit and then moved out to 25 yards and fine tuned it. The mechanical offset resulted in a change of about 2.5 inches in elevation between 5 yards and 25 yards, which was expected. I shot at the same point of aim at 5,7,10,15 and 25 yards. My groups went from 0.25 inches, up to about 1.5 inches across those distances. I was using a Holosun Circle Dot sight. I also have a Crimson Trace laser and iron sights on this gun. I got everything in sync and am ready for some fun!
I shot 175 rounds of Minimags and Blazer using 5 magazines. I only had one failure to feed at about round 95. I was having at least one FTF with each magazine, and frequently 2 or 3 per magazine. I can certainly live with one failure in 175 rounds.
Problem solved!

RGBEllCSI, what was your end-point criterion for the polishing?

Criteria
The feed ramp had surface scratches that I wanted to eliminate. I also smoothed the edges between the feed ramp and the chamber.
The barrel nut wasn't quite as tight as I expected. If it was a little loose, I can see it causing some feed and accuracy issues.
