Hi, I'm somewhat new to purchasing and learning about firearms. One gun I've had my eye on is the mp 15-22 pistol. When I check major retailers or local shops they are all out of stock. I was just wondering if anyone had insight into why there is no stock. Also wondering if I should go ahead and buy from one of the online dealers even with higher prices than 3-6 months ago. I appreciate any input!

So I have no evidence to support this but there was a thread recently suggesting that S&W was going to stop production of the pistol version to avoid potential tension or bans of pistols with braces. I own one and love it. I think it’s the perfect sized .22. And as mentioned I have no factual information or first hand support of that suggestion from a previous thread. I’ve stopped following their sales once I got mine this summer.

My LGS has a handful of them... I think selling in the $450 range... I've already bought 2 of them because of the short lifespan of the original 15-22 pistol...

What's the nature of the problem with the 15-22 pistol that causes it to have a short lifespan?

Does Smith & Wesson honor the lifetime warranty on it?

I believe he was referencing the earlier variation of the 15-22 pistol (no brace) that was discontinued potentially due to low sales or due to the east ability to create a short barreled rifle by switching uppers with a rifle. That example didn’t last long on the market, that’s why everyone was so excited to see these new variations come out with a factory brace.

Magpul made pistol braces for a month or two and then ceased all production. Now they are hard to find. I believe the big corporations have been told something and they don’t want to get stuck with millions of dollars worth of inventory that they have to throw away. That’s my guess.
