Default Trigger problem or "Bump fire"

I just wanna run this past you folks...

As I have gotten more comfortable, and
broken in both my 15-22's, I have been trying
to train myself to feel for the trigger reset
after a shot.

I keep my guns clean and give them lubrication
without going overboard.

More and more recently I am experiencing what
I will call "bump fire".

I press the trigger and before I know the 2nd
shot also fires.

I think this is really me, and it seems like
the gun's action comes right back on my finger
fast (due to being clean and lubricated).

Does this sound right? or is it say a trigger
issue?

Thanks in advance folks...

Assuming you have a stock mil-spec trigger group in your rifle....

Pull the trigger to the rear to fire a live round and hold it to the rear after the round is fired. Do Not let off. Once the action cycles and another live round is chambered, slowly let up on the trigger until you hear/feel the 'click' of the hammer catching. If it goes 'bang' while slowly letting off on the trigger (re-set), you have a trigger group issue.

Have someone else fire it slowly and rapidly.

Thanks Folks, good suggestions and I was about to
try them when I noticed that the forward most trigger
group pin had walked just outside of it's bore.

Function returned to normal as soon as it was nudged
back where it belonged.

I'm kinda not impressed with myself for not seeing this
sooner.

I think I'll be looking at the non-walking pin kit
here real soon.

Both pins should be held secure with the trigger & hammer springs. Double check to make sure the spring legs are in the pin slots. But if it happened once for whatever reason (slightly out of spec parts) you might want to invest in a KNS pin set.

My first 15-22 was missing the J spring in the bottom of the trigger. That allowed the hammer pin to walk out repeatedly. Be sure to check that on your next cleaning.

While you're monkeying with the trigger group, you might as well consider scrapping the stock mil-spec trigger and upgrade it to an aftermarket of some kind. If you want a good, upgraded trigger that doesn't cost and arm and a leg, check out the Rise Armament triggers. Midway have the Rave 140 on sale right now. Very decent trigger drop-in trigger group and they come with anti-walk pins.
