Default S&W MODEL 3000 PUMP SHOTGUN

There are a lot of S&W knowledgeable folks here so:
I have a mint condition model 3000, 18" barrel with a Choate folding stock, 4 round capacity. It's been fired many times but always taken care of. Are there any currently made shotguns that are parts interchangeable? I heard that Mossberg bought the patent from Smith. I bought the weapon in 1981 and would appreciate any information you guys (or gals) can provide.
