M&p 15-22
My dealer says that he has placed my order. Has anyone seen one of these for sale yet? I read that they would go on sale June 1st. My guy says it might take four days, four weeks or four months for the order to fill. I would like to hear if anyone has seen one of these or has shot one.
I am looking forward to getting one to match up with my M&P ORC.

I called a firearms dealer here in my Michigan hometown looking to purchase a new 15-22 and was told not to buy one.
I asked why?
Their response was that wholesaler said their were problems with the polymer lower.
Please let me know how you like yours and/or if anyone else has got the lowdown on whether there is a problem or not.

M&P15 .22 version
I have not seen this item at dealer level. Currently not on S&W website and they are very good at keeping their site up to date when new products become available.
I heard 3rd or 4th quarter, 2009 availability because of their surge in business since January...now at $200 million in backorders! My local gun shop has 6 verbal orders from customers for this new item but the S&W distributor in Minneapolis has not received any from the S&W factory.

Thanks for the responses. I am in Georgia and my dealer is a medium sized operation. In the past he was able to procure a couple of hot and hard to get pieces.
I will post up when I either get the gun or an update on it. Excuse the senior moment on the ORC typo.

I watched a profile of the M&P-22 on Guns & Ammo TV tonight and it looked great. They said they are shipping now. We'll see.

I caved in
I have been watching the threads on the MP 22 and the Colt M4. After talking to my local dealer I made he decision to switch my order from the MP to the M4. He called me back said the M4s were in stock and I had one two days later.
It has the same feel as the MP 15 ORC and is about 1 1/2 inches shorter. When you put them next to each other it is hard to tell the difference. The carry handle comes off with 2 screws like an AR. I plan to mount a red dot on it to match up with the EO Tech on the MP.
Shooting observations after 100 rounds of Remington gold bullets are that the clip has to be in perfectly or the 1st round has a hard time being picked up by the bolt. I had a few ftfs but I did not try to adjust the bolt speed to see if that had could fix it. I was shooting it with some people who came over and I couldn't really mess with it to try to dial it in.
Fit and finish is excellent. It is all metal and it weighs in very close to an AR. The clip is interesting as it has the same feel and heft of an AR 30 round clip.
Why did I defect? 1. S&W couldn't take the time to answer an email I sent about when they would start shipping the M&P 22s. 2. I didn't like the unfinished look of the M&P barrel end and I didn't want to mount a fake can on it. 3. I had no interest in the rails on the M&P, normal hand grips would do for me. 3. Watching the YouTube video on how to field strip and clean the M4. 4. It was the perfect little brother for my Colt SP 1 and S&W M&P ORC.
I jumped ship on this one but I will always be a hopeless S&W revolver addict.

The bolt hold open is decoration and non-functional and the safety has to be rotated 180 instead of 90 degrees on the colt. It would make a good toy but not as a training tool/cheap practice for an AR-15.

Nothing more on this weapon in over a month? I'm considering purchasing one and I hoped for some hands-on, I've got one, sort of info. Anyone have an update?
I've been researching a little and I think the S&W wins over the Colt for me. It seems the controls are more authenic to an AR-15. It's a $100 cheaper. It's made in the good old US of A. I do like the flame arrester and the carrying handle on the Colt though. I also like the fact it holds 30 rounds instead of the S&W's 25. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Got mine last week from a local dealer with an LEO discounted price of $369.00. After my first range session I can safely say the M&P is a much better carbine than my Colt/Umarex M4.

Thats seems to be the majority review here, youtube, etc, All ive seen, like the S&W over the Colt. Mine had all sorts of jamming issues, so it got sent back to S&W, cant wait to get it back and have some fun. I miss it.

TXshooter, whatever the problems were with yours S&W will fix it. Then you can truly enjoy these great little carbines. Let us know when you get yours back, and how it shoots.

Thanks for the info and opinions on this weapon. Everything I have read seems to favor the S&W too. I really like the look of the Colt better but looks only count for so much.

Colt looks tacticool . The trigger on the one I had sucked big time. Glad to now have a 15-22. I did keep the Colt till I had shot the S&W several times. Was not a hard decision to put the Colt up for adoption.

Stopped in my local gun shop/shooting range this afternoon and they said they are supposed to have 2 in stock tomorrow afternoon. I am #2 on the waiting list so.... hopefully, I will have one of my own tomorrow. I asked the expert behind the counter which one he prefers and he said he likes the Smith the best of the two. The Colt looks cool but it has too many fake gadgets that are just there for looks.

Amen to that. As an ex Colt M4 owner, I can tell you the rifle is a *itch to clean, and has a very ****** trigger. The fact that a couple of them have had the receiver break on a different forum helped me to decide to put mine up for adoption.
