Thank you Braden.
Maybe it would best to wait on that then. I keep hoping CCI or Aguilla will come out with an improved 22lr. I think they just may do that soon. Just a feeling.

well whats your thoughts on a .17 HMR? I know lot of people that have had lots of great luck with them. One of my friends had a marlin heavy barrel gun in .17 hmr and it would shoot sub 1/2" groups at 100 yards right out of the box. And you can pick one up for about half what a 15-22 costs

I have no experience with them. Really I had only seen those rounds at the store, wondered about them, and then didn't think much of it until this thread. About all I can say for sure is, that I wish I had a 15-22 in .22 magnum, and so I guess .17hmr would be great too.
Not that 22lr is anything to sneeze at. Good shot placement and it is a serious round. I sure would not want to be hit by one.

oh yea the .22 lr is definitely capable of killing. Its just the energy that it lacks. That and the ability to shoot flat. When zeroed at 50 yards the .17 HMR will barely drop any at 100 yards. I used to favor the .17 HMR when it came to rimfire varmint hunting but since Hornady came out with there .22 WMR with the 30 grain v-max bullet it changed my mind. You can get comparable velocity to a .17 HMR with an extra 10 grain bullet. Which transfers to more energy, which means more killing power

I don't know if it would be either possible or feasible to retrofit a 15-22 to 22 WMR, with a new barrel and bolt etc., but I wish it would happen. I think that round, may be too long, for doing something like that. I dunno. Like I said, I wish is all.

they could just make a new upper for it. then you could just buy that and still have the .22 lr upper and switch them out in no time.

That's right! I forgot all about that possibility. Just like any other AR. I bet they will offer one too. Can't wait!

They'd have to tool for another whole magazine, and probably a heavier bolt and springs. You change one thing, it throws the balance off the blowback system. 10 round mags would suffice with ammo at that price. I drool at the possibilities though. They'd also have to rename it something like the M&P-15RF after they expanded the caliber offering.

So I Had To Send It Back To The Factory. And they Made A Repair and sent it back to me.I have not got to Go Back to The Range yet but will update yall when i do.

I have had my M&P 15-22 for a few months. Took it out once and it jammed CCI Mini Mags like none other. I don't think I have had this much trouble with a .22lr.
I figured I would wait on sending it in until after the Christmas craziness.
What number do I call and do they only accept Fed Ex as a preferred method?
The nearest Fed Ex is about 40 minutes away.
Any help on sending in the gun for warranty info would be great.
Thanks!
Take care

Sorry to hear about your 15-22 issues.
What kind of jams were you having? Failure to eject or failure to feed?
Failure to eject can be fixed (if the extractor did not get lost) in less than a minute. Failure to feed could be as simple as not loading the magazine properly. Have you tried any other brands of ammo?
Sending rifle back to S&W is easy. Just call the customer service number. (S&W out till Jan 4, 2010). They will mail or email (fastest) a prepaid shipping label. There is an 800 number that you can call and have FedEx pick the package up at your residence so you don't have to drive a long distance. Someone must be home to sign for the package upon return.
HTH.
The S&W customer service number is in the manual that came with the rifle.

Went to the gun store last weekend to buy a 10/22 and came home with a mp15-22 instead. Hadn't seen them before, but it was love at first sight. I had planned on doing the klinker plinker AK style conversion on the 10/22 and this ended up being way more awesome and cheaper.
Went to the range and put about 125 rounds of federal through it. Had maybe 5-6 ejection failures. My buddy was having more ejection failures with his AR-15 than usual as well. Probably had something to do with the fact that it was about 20 degrees (f) outside...
I'll be taking it out again on Saturday it looks like, so I'll report if I continue to have problems.
Overall very fun and accurate. I didn't even touch my 9mm at the range I was having so much fun. Even though it was an impulse buy I haven't experience any buyer's remorse.
I'm planning on a scope, some rail covers, and maybe a flashlight /laser if I can find one that doesn't look too crazy. I already have a fore grip attached.
Oh, and I'm going to paint it pink and white like this: http://businessclassnyc.files.wordpr...-15-rifle1.jpg because who wouldn't do that?

Congrats on your 15-22.
Your FTEs may be due to a need for the 15 second ejector fix.
And your painting the rifle pink, well I'm saying it is BS or you are brave.

loose barrel
Only problem I had with mine was the barrel came loose.I made a barrel wrench and tighetened the barrel and it shoots fine now .I have shoot about 2000 rounds through it and it shoots great as long as I load the mags right.(take your time). The gun is pretty accurate and is a blast to shoot. Mine has a magteck scope riser, simmons 22 mag scope, magteck sling swivel adapter, winchester sling, harris 9"to 13" bipod, and magpul rail covers. It is the coolest gun in my gun safe.I bought all my acc. from midway USA the are an excellent company both in products ,price and service.Just be careful once you see their website its hard to stop buying things for your gun.

They are failure to ejects. I did some research and found the solution.
I emailed S&W but have since decided to try to fix this myself.
I just did the tweak last night and I am on my way out to do some shooting right now.
I tried all sorts of ammo: Federal bulk, Federal Auto match high velocity, CCI Mini Mags(performed the worst with every round FTE!!), Winchester bulk, Remington Bulk.
They were all FTE on me.
Will report back to see if I tweaked it correctly. If it doesn't solve the issue then I will be sending it back to them.
Shoot, maybe they can put a new Flash suppressor barrel on it for me instead of the free magazine that a lot of people have been reporting.
Thanks!

All right guys!
I adjusted the ejector inward and it now shoots federal bulk flawlessly!!!
Shoots just as accurate as day one9minus the jamming of course).
I just didn't have the courage to mess with the gun myself but finally I did it using my new favorite multitool.
MK7 designed tool: PocketToolX :: PIRANHA POCKET TOOL
I used the end with the two jaws, carefully placed it in between the chamber and the ejector and just slowly tweaked it.
I also used the ends and the wrench jaws to pop the pins in and out without damaging or scuffing the pins.
Sometimes those pesky pins can be a pain in the butt to remove by hands(especially being out in the cold shooting).
Thank you all!
Anyone happen to get the latest model with the flash suppressor?

Glad you were able to DIY. Pocket tool looks like an awesome item.
Some of the posters have been able to buy the 15-22 with the flash suppressor.
A poster reported that S&W would not update units already sold to have the threaded barrel and suppressor.

Put about 100 CCI Mini Mag round nose and hollow points through today with no problems. Put 50 Remington Thunderbolts through as well with only 1 failure to fire. So far after about 300 rounds I have only had one ftf. Hope it keeps up!!

I'm just going to have to take a chance and buy a second one! It'd be nice if they'd eventually sell just a barrel though, and spares like extractors, springs, and pins.

With as hot as these little guns are I can't believe their aren't others jumping on this yet.
Just imagine a tactical solutions barrel on this, lol.
I might say that I probably wouldn't buy any other barrel for this at all. I decided to slip on a red dot I had laying around and low and behold!! It works with the iron sights!
I slapped it on, adjusted it so it lined up with the tip of the front sight and I was hitting a 1/2" swinging target from 30 yards out no problem. The occasional flyer would miss(I was using federal bulk and cheap dirt winchester). I could not believe how accurate I was shooting it with irons and red dot working together.
It's dark right now but I will snap a picture of it tomorrow and post it(if I'm not too busy tracking my buddy down for some SHOT show information).
Which reminds me: My buddy stopped by the S&W booth tonight during set up and he said their are plenty of new models and guns coming tomorrow.
He couldn't get details because they were setting up but it appeared to be packed with several models of guns.
He got no chance to stop by the Ruger booth(That's the booth I wanted him to get too. Supposedly they are announcing a 1911!!!)
That would be awesome.
Sorry to get off topic but just thought some of you would like to know.

Congrats !!! you have a keeper.
It will stay with you for a long time, just make sure you use the right ammo. If the rounds work, stay with it.

shot my 15-22 yesterday, i shot about 150 rounds. i had 3 ftf's (light strikes) and about 5 FTLs (all stood up in the mag). I was using federal bulk. I have some winchester 333's, xpert HV's, and wildcats im gonna try using next time. Any problems with the last 3 types of ammo?

Cheap ammo is getting to be hard to find. My Cabela's order is still on b/o, Walmart is out too. My gun ate 125 rounds of Remington golden bullets today with 3 FTF's. Luckily, I have 5 mags. Unluckily, they go so quickly

Hey everyone out there with the 15-22. Just picked it up today, compliant with 10 rd mag. It's the first gun I ever bought so I'm a little new. Read about the ejector and mine looks like it should be ok, but I will be taking pliers with me when I get to shoot tomorrow.
I'm curious about cleaning and maintanance before and after I use this gun..can someone help a newbie?

clean it before you shoot it the first time... push the rear take down pin to the right side of the gun it doesnt remove completely then remove bolt carrier and bolt.. use a q-tip and some sort of bore cleaner/solvent to clean film off everything and reoil lightly do the same to the lower parts(trigger, hammer, and disconect) and chamber... then check the bore for anything that might have slipped into the barrel during manuf. and/or shipping.. make sure when u load mags you do it propper.. and you may wanna take a little extra oil with you to the range these guns are way to much fun to shoot but 22s are dirty... when ever you get home reclean and store... hope this helps

Thank You, that helps for sure. Might be a dumb question but when storing should the bolt be locked back or does it not really matter?
It also seems S&W took away the load assist button for their 10 round mags - not very easy to load them

do you have the actual 10rd mag or the 10rd capped 25rounder? Id like to see a pic of the shorter 10rd mag if thats the one you have. Thanks.

It's a capped 25 rounder...I was confused because I thought S&W was going to come out with a short 10 rd mag for compliant states (or anyone who wanted to use it as a bench rest), but the guys at my local gun shop had no idea if these "shorter mags" would ever come out

ok..yeah, its been talked about on here, where people said that s&w was actually selling the short 10rd mags, and even had a part # for them. I called them and they said they where selling them, but where on backorder...so i dunno. I actually found a rest for my 15-22 at Academy, its called the Caldwell NXT was only 19.99. Works great and has my gun high enough where the 25rd mag is no problem.

I honestly don't know if it would hurt it or not I've heard very gun educated people say it will hurt them and I've heard it won't by just as many, I store mine closed just for the simple fact that I just cleaned the darn thing and I don't want it full of dust which oil seems to attract

glad you were able to find a good rest - I'm interested in the short mags because I'm hoping that S&W puts the load assist button back on them. Such a pain in the ***** trying to load in the rounds without it.
Can't wait to shoot it tomorrow!

Got mine!
I picked up my 15-22 yesterday, many thanks to S&W for their military purchase program. When I got it home I cleaned & oiled with Mpro 7 gun oil. I was able to put two magazines through it in the back yard before the severe weather hit (fortunately the hail & tornadoes missed us). Only one slight problem, I have to go down and repaint the 50 yard dinger target. It suddenly developed a severe case of acne. Serial # DTX15**, red star on the back of the manual, Federal bulk HP’s.
Now to start thinking about a scope, tactical fore grip, flash hider, flashlight, laser, sling, etc.

Glad to hear you got one as well! I just got back from the range - after 300 rounds of federal heres what I got:
1FTE
2 FTF
I'm going to say the FTF's were probably due to not loading the mag properly - otherwise a very accurate gun and super fun to shoot!! looking forward to going again on saturday!

Went to the range tonight with the M&P15-22 and 22A pistol.Had Winchester 333, CCi minimag, and Federal Spitfire. Over 400 rounds, no major problems.
Wasn't really counting, but had several fail to load with the Winchester. Looked like the bullet came out of the casing and jammed it up.
No issues with the others. Guns seemed pretty dirty afterwards, don't think I'll be getting the Winchester again.
Where the heck are you guys finding Federal 22? I can't get it ANYWHERE

the walmart by me has been out of the federal 550 forever as well - but the place I bought the gun at had a few federal 500 packs. I bought 2 priced at about $10 more than the 550 at walmart. Needless to say as soon as walmart gets some in im buying it all!

Used to be I would buy ammo when I needed it. Then Belt_Fed started buying all of it. So now when I see ammo I buy it. Still don't have as big a stash as Belt_Fed, though.

I had to do some calling, and some major driving, but I found a walmart today that had 4 boxes of federal 550 bulk. around $75 later I went out to the range for my first real test of the M&P 15-22. wow - I fired off about 350 rounds without a single FTF or FTE. The gun worked flawlessly, even when rapid fired.
I'm thinking the new ones out have the ejector problem already fixed..just gave it a good cleaning before taking it out and everything was perfect...and recent buyers have any problems?
