Agree. Didn't a poster on one of the threads use a Dremel to open up the flashhider so it would fit?

I don't recall but a dremel is worth a try.

Hey, In my opinion looking at the stock and the grip you are leaning for a long distance shooter, so I would say Great as long as you get the right ammo to do the distance. I like the Agulia Interceptors. They never jam on me and they are 1475 fps.

Here is the link to ebay where I purchased it.

Well I got my 15-22 back from Smith today and it looks good and I recieved 2 extra magazines back with it. Wont get to try it at the range until after gun deer season although I may at the indoor range where I shoot. I put on all my new toys I bought for it with the exception of the 10-22 flash hider which is going to need a little dremel work in the shop to slide on when I get it done I will post a pic and so you can see what it looks like on the rifle. I dont think it will take to much work as it was fairly close to fitting when I tried to put it on.

The norgon ambi-catch is a drop in item, less than five minutes to install.

If you don't want to modify your safety selector, S&W set it up to be reversable. Just remove the grip off the bottom (pay attention not to lose the two springs and detents), with the hammer cocked, remove the selector and reinsert in the other side. Reinsert detents and springs. Reattach pistol grip.

It should look something like this when I'm finished. I know that isn't the same scope I have listed, but at least you get the idea..

Looks good. Get the barrel threaded and you will be perfect! Matter of fact the gun is super accurate. If they made a longer barrel they would be sick.

I'm curious to see how you plan to mount the PRS. The PRS normally mounts to a rifle length buffer tube. You may also find that the stock is just too heavy for the little M&P15-22.

i have never owned a 15-22 or any other ar type rifle i just assumed it would fit. i'm a total noob to this. I've built several 10/22's but this is my first 15-22. I'm still waiting on it to get here.

Thanks for the info Thomas my fellow lefty. Ok heres the first look at the MP15-22 with the 10-22 flash hider bare in mind gents it just came out of my shop I will be grinding down the set screw and blackening it to match the Smith I dont think its to bad looking and less expensive than sending my gun out to have barrel tapped but I will take all opinions no matter how cruel. hehe

Looks good really. I don't see the point though, unless the weight improves accuracy or something. It does look good though. I suppose it will serve to protect the muzzle crown. hmmm So it's not really frivolous after all.

Good job MrHowell.

Thanks Lynn actually it probably is a bit frivolous as it adds no weight it just gives the barrel a little longer look and makes it resemble my Armalite a bit and I wanted to show that you could make it fit with just a small amount of Dremel work I understand if guys want to spend the money to get the muzzle threaded for a real one but this is a fun gun for me I dont want to put a ton of money in it.

You are quite welcome MrHowell.

Since getting my 15-22, shooting it and marveling at the common sense design and how easy it is to break down and clean, I now wish I could afford a .223 AR. Oh, how I wish, that I could.

I just added this TruGlo Model TG8030 red dot,30mm lens,5 MOA Reticle 1 dot. I zeroed it in on an Indoor range about 50 ft. When the weather is better I will go to the outdoor range. For what it cost I think it should be ok. I paid $40 at Dicks sporting goods.

IMO, the sub $100 red dots are perfect for the 15-22. I have two on mine. I have a 5MOA tube-type as you do but on a 3/4 inch Tapco composite riser. Then I have a holographic 2MOA on the rail. The 2MOA is better for target shooting, and the 5MOA is better for cans and stuff.

Default bipod

I just got mine on Monday and I am starting to look around for some accessories. I am looking to get a bipod for it but wasn’t sure what length to go with, 6-9 or 9-13. Does anyone have any pictures? I don’t want one real high but I wasn’t sure if the 6-9 was too short with the mag.

The only plans for mine are a nice sling and a REAL flash hider, which I agree really has no functional use, but I just think the barrel looks very unfinished the way it is, and almost too short as well.

No disrespect intended, but sometimes less is more.

With a whopping 4 feet of rail space.... I'm pretty sure you're right about people being predisposed to hang a lot of options on their 15-22. I doubt many folks purchased the rifle for the pleasure of adorning it with rail covers. Though, I do have some Larue clips on the way. (Thanks Maxicooper)

I don't understand what you mean: 'ESPECIALLY with the gun just being an average shooting 22 auto' ?

I agree, the 15-22 is just an average shooting 22 (maybe not even that good). But if the 15-22 isn't the ideal 22 to be "festooned with all kinds of junk", then what 22 rifle is? I mean... If I showed up at the range with my Savage bolt action outfitted with a bunch of lasers, red dots, flashlights and various junk I'd be laughed off the range...

My next junk add-on will be one of those large green lasers like Barska or Primary Ams sells. I'm gonna mount it on the top rail and have my gun guy put a square hole thru my front sight so the laser goes thru it. I got some Larue clips on the way that should help with routing the pressure switch wire.

I put a hogue grip on which made a huge difference. I just ordered the command arms 3 way folding vertical grip from cabelas. Need to find a sling I like and it will be finished. By the way, cabelas has federal bulk in stock right now for a good price and a free dry box. Federal apparently shoots well in these rifles.

If I showed up at the range even with a 15-22 outfitted with a bunch of lasers, red dots, flashlights and various junk I'd be laughed off the range as well ... not saying it's not OK to do if it turns YOU on, but I couldn't do it. LOL.

Now ... if it was a serious rifle, it would be a lot more palatable ... these 15-22's are very nice plinkers, and a riot to shoot, and I really like mine, but they don't seem to have the accuracy that was originally reported from what I've seen.

Realisticly, All that picture shows is a different grip and stock, and then a scope added. Put aside the fact that the stock in the picture is not compatible with the 15/22, he didn't really hang anything out of the ordinary on it. The Magpul PRS (pictured) is a fantastic stock, and would be great on this rifle if it was to be/could be used for a target gun. I don't care for target pistol grips, but to each his own.

Personally, I think this little rifle just begs for a Magpul CTR, ACS or a Vltor modstock. I can't stand the standard AR-15 grip, (have really big hands, and the trigger reach is a problem), so I switch out all the pistol grips to the MIAD grip with the large backstrap.

But if you are speaking of white lights, lasers, and all the other **** that will find it's way onto the quad rail on this rifle, I agree, it's more or less a waste. With one exception. If you use this rifle as a substitute for your regular AR for training purposes to keep costs down, it should be configured very similar if not exactly the same size as your regular AR. But for real world applications, they are pretty much useless.

Hello everyone, just signed up here at S&W Forum as I wanted to show off my 15-22 as well as ask a few questions. First of, is it possible to replace the stock on the 15-22? If so, how do you do it? I can't figure it out as it all seems to be part of the lower receiver and is not like a standard AR.

I will post pics soon, but here is the list of accessories so far:

-Hogue Pistol Grip
-GripPod Foregrip/BiPod
-MagPul Full Profile Rail Covers
-Leupold Rifleman 2x7 Scope
-Leupold High Scope Rings, Matte
-MagPul Front Swivel Sling Adapter

Due to the fact that the stock does not appear removable, I can't use the BlackHawk Single-Point Sling Adapter (at least not as it's supposed to be used), but I think I can still use the sling.

Stock removable. Tube isn't. Pull all the way down on the position lever and slide it off. True, can't use the sling adapter... unless you want it spinning around.... cause there's nothing to hold it in place.

Congrats on your 15-22.

The stock IS removable. Instead of pulling up to shorten/lengthen the stock, pull all the way down on the lever. Stock will come right off. Takes a mil-spec replacement.

There's really nothing serious about the 15-22 as far as I'm concerned. The rifle was purchased for entertainment. It's like having a Christmas tree... it's fun to hang ornaments on.

I agree with you about accuracy. I've had several 22s over the years. The 15-22 is by far the least accurate, most expensive NIB, and most fun to shoot at cans. Even with knowing all the reported problems these rifles suffer.... I'd buy it again.

Default Mod Madness

Here's my 15-22 with a Hogue free float handguard. Yankee Hill flash Supp. And QD Tactical scope. Next is MagPul grip and stock to match my MOE M&P 15. When will this madness end????
I have had great results with Mini Mag and stingers. It sounds like any of the high velocity, high powered rounds work better. WW Federal bulk functioned flawlessly, but performed, well, not so much. The "golden" should be labeled crappen. They used to be fine in the 10/22, but not anymore. The 15-22 hated them. I will try them again when I hear better things. Gonna try vipers next. They worked AWSOME in my 10/22. The bunnies had no chance.
Loading the mag is key too. Always have some down pressure when loading. Never let the bullets not be under a little pressure. Use the guide button to just barely help load. Somebody has got to come up with a mag loader. Let's let Shooters Ridge and Butler Creek know we want them. Maybe a new company will fill the void?

So I'm assuming that something like this would work?

I think for a lot of us it's not why add stuff to the 15-22 but why not?
This is my first AR style rifle and I have enjoyed customizing it a little. I haven't done much, just Magpul stock and rail covers in FDE and a cheap red dot. It's just fun to goof around with and much easier to "upgrade" than a savage. So, I say...go for it if you like. One man's junk is another's treasure. I am not into 20 inch rims and crazy stereo systems for my vehicle but some folks love that stuff.

20" rims are OEM on some vehicles now. The great thing is we have choices for accessories in .22s and vehicles.

Any AR-15 stock that is designed to work with a mil-spec carbine receiver extension will work with the M&P 15-22. So yes, the EMOD listed above is good to go.

Well, I decided backup sights would be best with my aimpoint clone. I found this troy clone set for $89 shipped and had to have them. I ordered them Friday at 4pm and received them today, Monday, at 10am. Pretty fast shipping if you ask me! Especially the week before Christmas.

Anyhow, here are some pics. I can't wait to mount them up and sight them in. They are more heavy duty than I thought they would be. So far, I can say that I am actually more pleased than I thought that I would be. Pics will soon follow with them mounted on the rail.

I am not affiliated with them at all. Here is the site I purchased them from.
