I'm getting an M&P compact with the thumb safety. Considering holsters; mostly looking at IWB. Wondering what works for those of you that have this pistol. Some of these look like might not work around the safety too well. Let me know.

Also curious if ya'll had issues with black leather bleeding off on you (or on your clothes in particular). I know one holster maker indicated he does not make in black because of this. Gets pretty hot in Texas and some sweat is probable.

If your going to run an IWB, and the thumb safety, I'd recommend this. Do not get the "combat cut". You'll find the safety lever digging into your side if you do. And pay the few extra dollars it costs to get the Horsehide. It's "natural" (not black) in color because an IWB is hidden anyway, who cares? And the Horsehide is very thin, while being very tough and as close to sweat proof as an organic material can be.

For IWB carry I recommend a natural oiled tan finish, no dye. Even the best leather dyes will transfer with sufficient heat and moisture applied.

You may wish to consider a slide shield (rear leather panel extended up between your body and the slide). This adds comfort to the IWB and will also prevent interference with the thumb safety.

I have a Milt Sparks VM2 and a Brommeland MC5, both are black and have been carried a lot in summer and winter. Neither have bled any finish on my clothes or body. I recommend that you contact either of these holstermakers as I am sure they can supply you with a superb IWB holster that will last for many years. These guys aren't cheap and you will be on a waiting list, but if you are a serious gun toter you will not be sorry. Sparks offers a horse hide option on his products but Gary B. only does cowhide.

How and what I carry really depends a lot on the weather. In Texas we have to be more concerned with warm weather carry than cold weather carry.
When I carry my MP 9c IWB (which is seldom) I carry it in a black Don Hume (H715-M).
Usually in the summer months I carry my S & W 442 in a pocket holster either IWB or in a pocket. Belted shorts (not elastic waist band) with a loose fitting tee shirt or Hawaiian style shirt make summer concealed carry a lot easier. In the winter I can easily conceal my MP 9c or F. S. MP 40 in a OWB DeSantis Speed Scabbard.
But often I check the weather report before venturing forth for the day, since in the winter months, the day can start of off kinda cool and get quite warm later making wearing a cover coat more than a little uncomfortable.

With respect to the dye bleeding off - it won't happen if the holster maker seals the leather properly after the dye has been applied. In the normal course of carry, heat and moisture are not going to affect a properly made holster.

Make sure whatever holstermaker you choose to get a holster from knows you have the M&P with the thumb safety. Depending on the design of the holster itself, it may interfere with the thumb safety if they're using an M&P Compact that is not equipped with the same. Thus your gun won't seat properly in the holster.

Personally I never could get comfortable with iwb holsters. I've been wearing a simple slide holster from the NRAstore & it holds my 9c very snug.

I'm just like bangbangshootshoot I been using a Desantis Speed Scabard with my M&P 40c. Liked so much bought one for my full size M&P.

I acquired DM Bullard Jr Dual Carry. I carried it around today on a pair of sweat pants IWB with the M&P 9c. It works pretty good, but still needs a little stretching out. I discovered that I don't really need a holster for IWB carry with the M&P compact and inside a pair of jeans. The DM Bullard is a very high quality holster and reasonably priced for that quality of workmanship,

I like the Comp-Tac MTAC. I had one for my G23 and it was the best IWB I've ever used...the main feature I like is the ability to adjust the ride height and cant. I've got one on order for my M&P 40, can't wait for it to come in. They are also moulded for the safety on the M&P.

My M&P9c is currently riding in a Tucker Texas Heritage, which is a great holster. However, they're pricey and require a long wait, unless you can find a lightly used one for sale online.

I'm a big fan of that style of IWB holster with offset belt clips, leather backing, and adjustable cant and ride height. Examples of this holster include the Comp-Tac MTAC, Crossbreed Supertuck, K&D Thunderbird Defender, and Tucker Texas Heritage. They're all very comfortable due to the leather against your skin and the wide holster footprint, and most guns can be concealed under just a tshirt. Plus, with the adjustable belt attachment clips, they can be tweaked to fit any person's body shape and carry preference.

Of these holsters, the Comp-Tac MTAC specifically has a few big advantages, including a fast turnaround time of 1-2 weeks vs. several months for other holster manufacturers, the fact that it's cheaper than some of its competitors (especially with their current 10% off sale), and the ability to convert the holster to carrying another handgun by simply purchasing another $35 Kydex shell.

However, while the fit and finish of the MTAC is superior to the Crossbreed, it's not as good as some of the others. The other major shortcoming of the MTAC is the fact that it's only available for a relatively small number of handguns, when compared to the options available for other, similar holsters. But that's not an issue with the M&P (as it is with the S&W 3rd Gen autos).

what Ray at Lobo Gunleather said. he did an IWB holster for a Sig P239 with the slide shield which I am wearing at this moment. the slide shield makes a big difference in comfort also. my holster is black and I've had no dye transfer issues at all. he's done a few other holsters for me and if you check around the forum he is very well regarded. and I get no compensation for reccomending Ray's work!
