changeable backstraps to fit the shooter's hand, reversible mag release, textured grip finish, better gripping lines on the slide.

Looks the same to me. Just add a backstrap and reversable mag release button (big and square ). There is a new spring inside called a spring within a spring to dampen recoil. ( I do not know - I did not shoot it )
The rest is cosmetic frills.

The first run of these will be the .40 S&W mods for the cops. Later the 9mm's will come.

New mags will have to come out as well due to the ambi mag release with a cut slot on the other side of the mag as now appears on the current mags.

Should be released ( I am told ) after the coming SHOT SHOW where it will come out to the public.

Frankly, it will take a lot to pry me away from my M&P's. They do all this RIGHT NOW.

But it will fire if you hold it submerged in your toilet... never know when that might be helpful and who else can make that claim????

Any news if the grip angle is still as wacky, or have they lessened it a little bit?

Not to mention the Walther P99, the gun that introduced the concept of changable backstraps on a plastic pistol.

At least they are learning, even if they are a bit late to the changeable backstrap game (P99/SW99, PPS, M&P). That was one of the features that sold me on my SW99 and greatly enjoy shooting that gun.

Glock G22 RTF2: 4th Gen Glock is official | The Firearm Blog

I've got a G22 with the Rough Texture Frame. It truly is an answer to a question that was never asked, and I love the old(er) 3rd generation frame. That issue aside, however, I love Glocks for what they are - reliable, accurate, easy to shoot and easy to maintain pistols.

As we all start crowing about S&W (and Springfield, and Ruger, and ...) superiority in the plastic pistol market let's all remember that Glock was in the market a good 10 - 15 years before anyone had a similar product on dealer shelves. Manufacturers sat around mumbling about how plastic pistols were a passing fad as Glock stole more and more market share from them. Eventually S&W woke up and now seems to have hit its stide with the M&P line, but give credit where credit is due - Glock got it right, right out of the gate, long before anyone else.

Ambidextrous magazine release I’ve seen on a G21SF. The new style magazines have been available to the market place for at least a year. I have examples for both the G17 & G21. There is the standard notch and a cut across the front which makes the magazine compatible for old and new styles.

On who is copying who lets just say S&W followed Glock into the polymer market. I have an M&P9 nice pistol. Not getting rid of my Glocks at this point or any time soon. None the less the M&P9 is a good pistol.

I didn't consider the quote from the Glock press release, announcing the new "rough frame" an internet rumor. Also, the guns themselves are pretty convincing. But maybe I'm just gullible.

Since when is "thefirearmblog" Glock's press release? RTF is an option on some current 3rd generation Glocks. That is what you're mistaking for 4th-gen.

Obviously it's not, you misread my statement. As to what we will call the next Glock frame, I guess that's still undecided. The current new frame has been popularly called the 4th Gen since it was unveiled at the last Shot Show; maybe the next one will be called 5th Gen?

I think there is confusion because some people are referring to the RTF as "4th Generation", while others are referring to the yet to be unveiled (maybe shot show) version as "4th Generation".

Does anyone know if Glock's next model (not RTF) will continue with the steel tab inserts in the polymer frame or go to a chassis system as S&W has done?

Generation I,II,III... IV??? It sounds like Glock understands that product improvement is requisite in a competitive marketplace where consumers have multiple choices. If Glock had insisted on only producing what are now styled Gen. I pistols, it would be as illogical as current manufacturers to continue to produce pistols styled as 1911 designs. Wait a minute... that is exactly what many manufacturers are doing. Sincerely. brucev.

yea that what lots of people say and they say the glock is much better, but if its a copy how is it not as good---
not trash talken Glocks just seems a silly my dogs bigger than your dog kinda thing
the good is we can own both and enjoy both
I wont trash talk others guns as I think they ALL have good points, bad points and we can all get along no matter what we own o well off the soap box LOL

Having zero Tupperware experience in 45+ years allowed me to bring only first impressions to the glass counter top when I was looking for one. The one overriding issue for me has always been, how the weapon's sights come into alignment during a fast presentation. Everything else will be academic if I can't get it into action as quickly as possible? A K frame does it well for me, a 1911' with an arched mainspring does it well for me too. Many of the Sig's do equally as good. Unfortunately, the Glocks would not for my shape hand. They have a great reputation. Too bad they won't work for me.

I'm gonna hold out for the 5th gen...when they make them out of metal.

I just saw a pic of that new glock today in a magazine, not too sure if that new replaceable backstrap will sell, I love my glock and personally they should stick to their guns (no pun intended) and do away with frilly add-ons. The design just doesn't look good now. I love my SW99 for having its replaceable backstrap, but my glock is my GLOCK. The RTF stuff looks ok, but I guess I'm just old-fashioned.
