Peep sight for M&P
Hello,
I would like to try a peep sight on my M&P40 with a HIVIZ front. I have the HIVIZ already. Anyone seen a peep for an M&P? BTW, not sure what difference it any, a peep vs ghost ring sight.

I'm not sure if such a sight exists, but with a handgun (held at arms' length) it may not work as well as on a rifle. The idea is that your eye automatically centers the front sight in the rear circular opening, which on a long gun is blurred and right up against your aiming eye. If you are looking for fast sighting, perhaps one of the shallow V notch rear sights would work?
I think the difference between a "ghost ring" and "peep" rear is the former has a larger opening; at least that's how they are marketed.

I had a "peep" rear sight installed on my PO16-40. It had a rather large opening and should probably be classified as a ghost ring rear sight. I believe it was made by Caspian and was available with either a round or diamond shaped opening. I wish I could say that it improved my shootng but it did not.

In my limited experience with ghost ring sights I find they are best suited for rifles. Not handguns. The rear ghost ring sight is meant to be used close up, not at arms length.
I shot a freinds Glock with an Aerotek ghost ring sight a few years ago. For slow, deliberate aimed fire they were ok but not great. For rapid sight aquisition they stunk. The rear ghost ring sight is too busy making it difficult to focus on the front sight.
Personnaly I think they are a waste of money and useless. The goal of changing or replacing the sights on a handgun should be to make the front sight easier to find and focus upon.
Night sights are a good start however they don't do much for you in daylight. Trijicon and Meprolight seem to be the standard in night sights. I however prefer XS Sights. They stand out in low light and day light.
Another great sight is Tru Glo TFO. They are both a night sight and fiber optic sight. They work very well.
Good luck.

I was attempting to be diplomatic in my description of the ghost sights utility. I prefer a plain black or white outline rear with either a fiber optic or gold bead front sight.

I didn't think it was that bad.

Thanks for your inputs. I have a HIVIZ I am going to put on the front (wish I would have bought red now) and undecided about the rear sight. I have the two dot white in the rear. I like the black with with outline, may try my hand with some paint just to try it out as soon as I get my HIVIZ mounted.

You may also want to consider the Warren Tactical sights. The rear has a U notch and the front is fiber optic. It's sort of like the bottom half of a ghost ring sight, very easy to line up and very fast. They started out as competition sights but have developed into duty/carry/tactical applications as well. I have a buddy with a set on his Glock and am noting but impressed with them.

I'm trying the Hexsite from Goshen Enterprises in Sedona, AZ. I couldn't focus anymore on the typical handgun sights due to aging eyes. I am doing OK with this one and I think I am going to like it. It doesn't do a thing for the 'shakes' though ;-).
