Default M&P 9mm Question

My father recently purchased a S&W M&P 9C. While picking up the brass from the first range visit we noticed that the primers had a strange shape after firing. After field stripping we noticed that there is an interesting gouge underneath the firing pin hole. Not sure if it's a machining error or is intentional. It doesn't affect the function at all. What do you all think?

My 9c looks identical to yours.

I have no problems with it.

Happy New Year!

Mine does as well.
My guess (and it's only a guess?) is that it's to allow combustion debris to fall away from the breech face.

Default M&P Breech Face

I have (and shoot) 9mm and .40 caliber full size M&P pistols. They both have that odd looking "trough" below the firing pin hole in the breech face. Don't know the purpose, but it was purposely put there.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if it was a CNC error or what. Thanks for the help.
