Sear deactivation lever issues
My Police department is transitioning to the M+P 9 after being stuck with the Glock for about 14 years. I am happy about it. I am an instructor and was trained by S+W to fix them.
Now to the point.
Anyone have issues with disassembly of the pistol? Specifically the sear deactivation lever coming out of it's place in the sear block?
Our pistols do not have the mag safety which leaves a space to the right of the lever. We have had a few pistols that the lever has slipped into that space jamming things up.

There should be a spring in that space to keep the lever in place.

There is a spring yes.
I have always said you can give a Cop a piece of steel and he will break it. I was only wondering if anyone else had seen the issue.

Mag safety lever
I thought something like that could happen.
I don't see why they didn't just put a washer in with the same thickness as the safety lever... That's what I would do.
Mine has the mag safety, but I did look into how they eliminated it.

I imagine that you have figured this out by now (some may read that have not), but when it gets stuck, lock the slide back, rotate the takedown lever back to the 3 oclock position, allow the slide to go forward, and pull the trigger. It will release the takedown lever back to the correct position.

I had this same issue and damn near couldnt get that lever back into the proper place and no amount of pulling the trigger or anything would move that lever and I swore I was going to snap it and then as quick as it slipped out of place and to this day I dont know what I did to fix it the lever finally went back into place and hasnt happened since then.

I hate to appear dense here, but I have never seen this, and from your post, I am not sure if you are referring to during FIELD STRIP or during a COMPLETE (ARMORER ONLY) DISASSEMBLY.
The answer is that I have never had it happen. On the other hand, I do NOT use the sear deactivation lever for removal of the slide. I use the "prohibited" way which S&W said will absolutely not hurt the gun, but which of course is not a factory approved disassembly method. I seriously dislike removal of the "tool" and the prohibited way is completely safe, PROVIDED you triple check to make sure it is unloaded.
For anyone else who neither likes using the prohibited way nor removing the provided tool to do the job, almost any similarly shaped instrument will do the job.

I read the lever was so you wouldn't have to pull the trigger. This did not work for me. I still had to pull the trigger to disassemble it.

This would have been easier if you hadn't picked a 7 year old thread to ask this question. Better off starting a new thread.
Even so, you shouldn't have to pull the trigger if the sear deactivation lever has been moved down. If you moved the lever and still have to press the trigger, send it back to S&W for repair.
I could tell you how to fix it, but if this isn't working, what else is wrong? S&W will give it a good once over to ensure you get a working pistol and it's free.
