Default Scratches on MP9c Slide

My own MP9c has scratches on slide wall as attached. I just found after firing with FMJ 239 rounds (85 days since purchase). What happen?
Someone told me it's come from manufactring process. Oh...How about S&W QC process?
If caused by scratch of slide and barrel, from my investigation: no any rub and/or scratch on the barrel.
If scratches caused by bullet case, it's impossible, because the level of the hardness of slide and bullet case is so different.

Please give me an idea and recommendation.

Both of my M&Ps do not have that. Don't know what to tell you.

Personally the billboard on the side of the slide would bother me more then that. I can't tell if thats a machining mark or from the barrel rubbing on it...but in any case it shouldn't effect anything and can't be seen with the barrel in place...that billboard can't be missed though

I don't see anything like that on either my 40 or my 40c. Looks to me like it might just be a machining mark and the finish didn't take to it very well.

It wasn't my intention to steer this thread off topic so for that I sincerely apologize to the OP. I hope you find a resolution that makes you happy.

Simply, I hate when the aesthetics of things are blemished with warning labels for something that should be common sense.

Sorry, but to me "Caution: Capable of firing with magazine removed" Translates to "This firearm may fire a bullet if the trigger is pulled."

Please give me an idea and recommendation
Idea: All I see is minor surface marks from manufacturing and operating the gun. It is not supposed to start or stay mirro-finished inside the action.
Recommendation: Shoot it.

I have a brand new M&P9 Pro Series. Haven't noticed anything like that.

I guess this problem doesn't affect the functioning of the gun. BUT, if it spoils your joy about your new toy, give it back and ask for a replacement.

That's how I ended up with my M&P - I bought a new Gen4 GLock 22, and it had some blemish inside the frame, on the plastic. I learned that it comes from the factory and almost all new Glocks have it.
Same story - it didn't affect the gun, but kind of spoiled my pleasure of owning a new gun. So I gave it back and bought the M&P instead.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your idea, that scratches doesn't affect the function of my gun. But, I spoils my pleasure of owning a new gun, bad mood to shoot it. Right now I'm OK, I shoot it every second day and have got other problem; ... consumes big budget.

I think that scratches may from cutter marks on manufacturing process. Unfortunately all guns could not ask for replacement in Thailand, only to blame, blame and let's it be or bang!!!!

While cleaning my M&P 9c, I noticed a shiny groove (more than a scratch) and a parallel scratch starting in the 45 degree angle base of the ejection port, almost center of it. I couldn't see it when looking at the profile of the pistol because the angle of the base runs downhill on the opposite side of the "CAUTION-CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED" sign. The groove appears to be made by the ejecting empty brass because it is the same angled path. None of my other non-S&W pistols has ever done this and I'm concerned about the future damage. This pistol is new and only has a few hundred rounds run through it. I'm going to call the Mother Ship to see if it is under warranty since the groove and scratch are after my purchase and not manufacturing-made scratches. Has anyone else experienced this?

If that's caused by the brass being ejected, try cleaning your pistol more often. Brass can indeed mark hardened steel if there's dirt or carbon build up in the area. Brass tubing is often used to drill holes in glass. All it takes is a little abrasive.

Billboard? Can't be any worse than the paint-on filigree done to some pistols.

Addition:
Don't load dirty ammo.
Don't drop your magazines in the dirt

It's a fairly new pistol with less than 300 rounds run through it. I've cleaned it about five times so far and always immediately after returning from the range. I've only fired new, brand name, brass shell ammo. This is the first time I've ever experienced this in any pistol I've owned.

I called S&W about it. They gave no opinion and said to call back after the holidays; they take this time for annual maintenance. When I do call back, they will email a FedEx shipping label to me so I can send it to them for inspection. So, I won't know anything until about a month from now.

I think the warning labels are there because so many S&W products have the magazine safety. So they're warning folks that this gun is different.

That said I pay it no mind.

This is not a reasonable thought. Sure, we all want to keep our equipment clean and in good order, but this is simply not possible. When doing an emergency reload, you absolutely must drop the empty mag on the dirt/ground.

You could just take some Wet Or Dry abrasive paper and polish it away.

This Thread is SIX years old! The OP made 5 posts in this thread and no more. Guns that get shot a lot show wear. As long as the barrel stays straight and the bullets come out the other end, don't worry about cosmetics! SIX YEARS OLD!

Look back at post 15. If you took time to read the thread you'll see that your rant is unnecessary. Yes, the thread was started 6 years ago, but there is a new aspect.

The shiny scratch is in black melonite. Polishing it would mean removing more melonite and increase the size of the shiny silver area rather than decrease it, making it look worse. This is the only pistol I have with this "scar". I believe this scratch is the symptom of a bigger problem. I want S&W to fix the cause of the problem. Since this scratch happened so quickly, I feel that long term use will make the problem worse.

UPDATE:

I've since found out from other threads with pictures of identical markings that this is indeed brass instead of scratches. It comes from the last round in the magazine. Cleaning helps but I don't think I will continue cleaning this pair of marks anymore since it isn't dirty residue that can harm the pistol. It will just add character. I still wonder why it only happens to M&P's.
