Default Friend had a bad day....

Well my friend and I went to the range today he had a new M&P.40c and this was his first time shooting it, he had 2 FTF in 100 rds 1 with a Federal FMJ and 1 with a Win. HP.
I felt bad for him, he's an experienced shooter, so it wasn't limp wristing, and he cleaned it before we went, is this a common problem with a new 40c ??
I bought one too and I've got 250rds through it with no hiccups yet, but I sure have my fingers crossed after what happened today. Any thoughts or comments ??

FT feed or fire?

Winchester White Box? What kind of Federal?
Did he clean/lube his pistol before taking it to the range?

There's a lot of variables so it is hard to say what could have happened.

I've had my M&P for over four years now and haven't experienced any problem so I don't know.

Never seen any M&P fail to feed. Give it another 100 rounds and see what happens. But try different ammo.

If it persists then send it back.

If it is a brand new gun I would shoot it some more before drawing any conclusions. I have shot a lot of the ammo you are talking about and it has always been fine. If he shoots 200 more rounds and it still does it I would start to wonder. Be sure and number the mags so you can tell if it jams with one mag and not the others.

Magazine may need broken in. But just in case make sure he has the newest followers in his magazines. From what I understand there are 3 different designs for the followers for the 40. Also The 40c is VERY snappy and can cause even "experienced" shooters to have issues, though those are mainly ejection issues. Also try shooting a standard 180gr FMJ flat point and see what it does. I have not seen any 9.99 .40 but did see some 12.09 federal that was 165gr. I try to stick with 180gr because it is what the sights are set up for.

I've probably got 500rds thru my 40c and 400 thru my 40, and I've never had an issue with either of them (knock on wood). They've been flawless. I'd just keep shooting!

I would not rule out limp-wristing. It can be a real problem, sometimes especially for experienced shooters, because they have adopted a relaxed grip that may work fine with the revolvers and autos they are used to, but not with lightweight, sharp-recoiling guns.
