Default MP45 FTF after press check

Hey All,

MP45 4" (#307707) that has been off to the Performance Center.

The pistol has ~300 rds in. Shoots FMJs and the Ranger T's fine. But yesterday I loaded a mag and holstered. Later I was about to fire, and out of habit performed a press (brass) check. Yes, I should have looked at the chamber indicator.

Sights on target, I pulled the trigger. Click. Ejected the round and the primer was untouched. Reloaded the same round and it fired just fine. Worked fine the rest of the day as well, but did not have time yet to try to duplicate the issue.

So does anyone know if it is possible for the Firing Pin block safety to stay engaged and have the sear break?

Also, for the M&P will it fire if it is not 100% in battery?

I will try to duplicate soon, but would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

All auto pistols are meant to go into battery with vigor. Press checking (hazardous to your health) does not allow the slide to close with vigor. Striker fired pistols are somewhat more prone to failure to fire when the slide isn't absolutely, positively fully in battery than hammer fired pistols. No, the firing pin block didn't prevent firing.

If you just HAVE to make sure the top round in the magazine didn't enter another dimension instead of the chamber, may I suggest pulling the magazine of the holstered pistol and checking the witness holes? Much less chance of the barrel ending up pointed at some part of someone's anatomy and the slide has gone into battery with vigor.

I don't understand the "press check". Any holstered gun should be loaded with a round in the chamber. All of the time.

Some IDPA competitors load the pistol then pull the slide back slightly to be sure a round chambered.

I have seen a few guns fail to fire after a press check left it slightly out of battery.
