Extended Slide Release

Is there an extended slide release available for the M&P 40? Like many I have a problem with the stock release so I slingshot the slide which is OK. But I would really like to comfortably use the release as well. I contacted S&W shortly after buying the gun and they offered to replace it but I had to send it to them for installation. That was about 3 years ago and I am hoping there is one available at this time I can install myself. I installed the Apex sear and really like it - 3 lb 10 oz trigger with great reset and very little overtravel!!

You're really better off to slingshot the slide, it just gives it that little bit of extra "umph" to ensure positive chambering.

I absolutely agree!! BUT in matches and training courses it is becoming frequent to see scenarios where you must reload from slide lock with only one hand and while it is possible to use the stock release I'd like to have an extended one that is easier to work.

Depending upon when you bought your M&P40, you may have an extended slide stop. The difference is that the original slide stop was darn near flat. The extended stop protrudes somewhat more from the side, rather than toward the rear of the pistol. May I point out that the factory slide stop is ambidextrous, there's nothing to prevent you from using your trigger finger on the slide stop instead of the thumb.

Slide stops that extend back toward the rear of the pistol are more prone to contact with the hand(s) resulting in operator induced malfunctions. This isn't a real good situation.

Brownells is back ordered on the factory (extended-it became the standard) slide stop if you want to order one to install yourself.
