As I alluded to in the thread NRA 2010 Annual Meeting
here's the new models:

It took some doing to get this. Enjoy.

What exactly do Two in One VTAC Sights really do? If some have trouble finding the front sight with three dots...How does adding three more dots for six dots total help?

If they're taller for a can. Why isn't their a threaded can barrel on it?

What is a "durable PVD finish"? Is that a powder coat or a baked enamel paint job?

I want Smith to come out with a MyLastRookTAC. Finished in Durable Spanish Red Woodstain so it will be camouflaged sitting on my nightstand.

The sights look interesting but a little busy. I could do without the paint job though. Hopefully the sights are available if they are any good.

Hmmm 6 dots?
Interesting.....

I don't know about it myself.

Also wonder why they did not list it in .357 Sig???

Yes, a butterscotch .357 SIG would be on my list too.

Just a guess on the sights. The tritium is for extreme low light use and the fiber optic is for more light. Depending on ambient light, the eye will go to the dots most visible under the lighting conditions.

PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition. It is a method of coating surfaces with thin films. Most likely in this case the substance is the tan coloring that would also provide some sort of protection. Typically the makeup of the coating is very hard, much harder then the steel underneath. I assume that this PVD coating is in place of the melonite coating used on the standard pistols. It is not powder coat or enamel paint, but more of a chemical reaction. If there are any chemists here, they could probably dazzle you with more technical information than I.

I sell carbide metal working tooling and this is very frequently coated with a PVD coating to help give the carbide better heat and wear resistance.

Any one know of a review done on those sights? It would be intersting to read.

Thanks,

Default VTAC Sights M&P40

Picked up an M&P40 VTAC recently, went to the indoor range and shot it today. I'll start with, it's another great M&P of a different color. Ya gotta like desert tan, it is unique (I like it) among a world of mostly black semi-autos. There are a couple other brands out there with a firearm in this color too, as well as AR's. The gun was a typical M&P, shoots well, no problems with function. The VTAC sights appear to be a nice product, unfortunately at the indoor range they were like shooting with black sights without any dots. The range is to bright for the night sights and the lighting is indirect so the fiber optics didn't glow. Lining up the black and black worked just fine however, and the accuracy was better than I expected for my first outing with this piece. I am looking forward to using it outdoors in the future, to see how the the fiber optics work. I imagine this is not what most people wanted to hear about the VTAC sights. If you've never owned a weapon with black or plain silver sights, it still works the same way; line em up. Just not easy against a black target, or white target with silver sights. I know the night sights will work fine in the dark, just don't know about the accuracy of them and the fiber optics. Since lining up the plain black was fine, I imagine they all will work quite well. I will write again once I get to experience them.
